Bleeding at 6 weeks with heartbeat detected. What is spotting and what is heavy? Pics attached

Hi friends in my phone. I'm 6+3 and yesterday I had some bleeding with some small clots so went to a&e and a heartbeat was detected. The bleeding continued and then stopped in the night time, but started up again around 10:30am today. It's not super heavy but accompanied by some dull cramping. I also just don't know if what I'm experiencing is spotting or more than that? It's never filled a pad but has definitely left marks and quite a lot of blood on pads. The blood has ranged from bright red to pink to brown to dark brown. I'm now on 400mg progesterone pessaries twice a day too, to help as have had previous MCs.

I'm attaching some pics. This is what it's been like when I wipe when there's actually red/pinky blood (as opposed to brown discharge). Would this be considered heavy?

As I said it's not soaked a pad through yet. So confused and worried 😥

First image is today, it's pinky brown.
Second image yesterday afternoon (after seeing heartbeat) and third image yesterday morning (before seeing heartbeat).
Any tips or reassurance or advice appreciated.

Hi hope someone will be along that can offer some advice!
The blood from my MC was a brighter red and lots of it. No cramps. I was 6+3 but they worked out it had stopped growing at 4 weeks.
Praying it all works out for you, OP

I have had bleeding followed by miscarriage. I have also had bleeding followed by a now 3 year old. With my daughters pregnancy I had bleeding for the first 16 weeks of pregnancy. I varied in colour and severity. I had a subcronic hematoma. I know its distressing.

Thank you both. The weird thing is the sonographer couldn't point to what is causing the bleeding 😥

Here to hold your hand @Skylark1990 💕..that would be scary to see, is the bleeding getting stronger and heavier? I would see how the next 24 hours go ( i know that will seem like forever) and then call your GP or early pregnancy unit.. Ive been told to call GP if my bleeding gets worse

Thank you @blibbyblobb , it is relatively steady but not getting loads heavier atm. I did pass a clot about the side of a 50p piece earlier. there seems to be more blood when I go to the loo, maybe the angle of how I'm sitting? Has your bleeding died down now? Did you have this level or less or more? It's amazing they saw a heartbeat when this is happening but I can't help expecting a miscarriage at any moment with this bleeding, I've had two this year already. Also have a DD who is nearly two who was conceived straight away, no bleeding, no issues. It's very confusing 😥😥

The epau said they'll give me a scan on Mon so I just need to get through the weekend. I wish I could go tomorrow. They said if it gets heavier or more painful to go in to a&e.
I am having cramps but also was given progesterone pessaries yesterday so maybe it's caused by these.

Mines less, more spotting and no clots but was the same colour, its turned brown now and sickness has started. My previous healthy pregnancy i did bleed heavily and he was fine.. Try keep yourself busy and occupy your mind i know its easier said than done.. You got this 💕

I'd probably call that light bleeding with very small clots, it looks to be more than spotting. Spotting to me would be less in volume, just a little bit on wiping and not much else.

Sorry you’re going through this - I hope everything is ok and the scan gives you the reassurance you need.

If it helps I don’t believe that would be classed as heavy bleeding - I believe that’s defined as filling a pad in an hour, or whether it would create a pool of blood on a surface.

Moderate would be the next stage down from heavy, and would still be a fair bit of blood. I think filling a pad in 3 hours.

It does look a bit more than spotting though, which is just a few drops - maybe light bleeding?

I know that’s all just semantics but it might be reassuring to know if it’s light bleeding rather than heavy.

I had one incidence of heavy bleeding early on, followed by light bleeding/spotting for a couple of days and all was well. So it does happen to a lot of people.

I hope everything is ok.
