Covid and 38 weeks pregnant - need a hand hold

I started to feel unwell yesterday afternoon and tested positive for covid. I'm 38+1 weeks pregnant and feel absolutely awful - cold symptoms, mild cough that makes me feel like my stomach muscles will explode, fever and shivers, upset tummy. I'm just so upset because I've been so careful and also really scared that I'll give birth feeling absolutely awful. DC1 was born at 38+5 so I feel like I'm on borrowed time to get better. DH has managed to take time off work to look after our toddler so I can stay in bed.

Can anyone give me any advice to aid recovery or just some nice words to tell me everything will be OK? I'm so worried.

I had covid last year and felt like I was going to die BUT that only lasted 2 days! Then I had a third day of just feeling rather tired, then I was fine :) (although tested positive for the full 10 days).

what I’m trying to say is that although you may be feeling AWFUL now, it may be over much sooner than you expect (and hopefully before baby even thinks about making an entrance!)

Thank you @QuietCity that is really reassuring! I've just been trying to sleep and drink as much as possible

I caught covid a couple of weeks ago at 32 weeks. I only felt the worst for 2 - 3 days, the rest had been bearable. Hopefully it is short lived for you.

I had it in 2020 and was ill for about 14 days but the current variant is ment to be milder.

Oh you poor thing. I agree with pp, I had it in March at 36 weeks and felt absolutely horrific for 2 days and then for a week or so just very phlegmy but well otherwise. Baby absolutely unaffected. Good luck!

Hey, today is my day 7 with covid and I'm 34 weeks, when it initially hit me I coughed so much I threw up, lost my voice and had to go to hospital for monitoring because my heart rate was too high - but baby was absolutely fine and still is, and after about day 3 the really shitty symptoms left and now I just feel the fatigue and chesty cough (still testing positive). I'm sure you and your baby will be fine, definitely make sure you really, really rest, and stay hydrated.

I was really upset too as I've managed to avoid it for so long (since early 2020) but it got me (and my husband) in the end! But you will get through it.

Thank you so much everyone. I'm so sorry you have had to go through this too - it's horrible! Think the fever has gone and now just the cough/cold/fatigue. I've just been trying to sleep and drink as much water as possible. So glad you and all your beautiful babies are OK x
