When will you buy your pram and other big items?

I have seen a good deal on the pram I like, but I am only 18 weeks. Tempted, but part of me thinks I should hold off a little longer.

Curious when everyone else is going to/has bought the bigger baby items?

I didn’t buy anything prior to 38 weeks but as for the big things, a car seat was bought when first baby was 5 days old, a cot was bought when the baby was 8 months, and we didn’t buy a pram. It’s not superstition just practicality, storage space and cash flow.

I'm 17 weeks with my second. I think once we've had the 20 week scan we'll start gradually getting a few bits. I probably won't order the travel system until quite near to my due date, just because of storage space!

I was 20 weeks pregnant when I saw an amazing deal on the travel system that I wanted. I didn’t get it and eventually got it when I was 38 weeks. I got my moses basket gifted to me at 32 weeks but kept it in the box in my mum’s house.

Second pregnancy, I got my buggy at 38 weeks again. Moses basket gifted at 35ish weeks.

Bit of superstition for my reasons. I just didn’t want anything in the house until the end of my pregnancy because you just don’t know what can happen during the pregnancy. You never know what can happen during the labour too so I didn’t want to have loads of stuff in the house to deal with if something happened (God forbid).

Buy things when you feel ready though. If it’s a great deal then I’d just go for it tbh

I bought most of the big stuff after my 28w scan (i had extra growth scans as DD wasn't growing very well and she ended up only being 5lbs 12oz). At that point, we had had the anatomy scan and she was past the point of viability so it felt ok to start having some things in the house. Bought the carseat at 36w and was very glad we didnt leave it too late, as i went into labour at 37+5!

I bought my pram at 17 weeks. Seems early compared to rest of the comments but was too good of a deal.
We got it delivered about a month before due date.

We didn’t buy anything before the 20 week scan then started getting smaller bits like clothing. I think we got the car seat and cot around 30 week mark, the pram only arrived last week at 34 weeks and I think we now have everything.

I'm 33 weeks and got our pram yesterday. Bought a cot much earlier as there was a deal on it.

bravotango · 27/06/2022 08:50

I have my 20 week scan this week and after that we will probably start buying small things (clothes, books) and non baby specific furniture (chest of drawers/wardrobe for nursery etc). Then ramp it up about 32 weeks I think which gives us another 3 months to put money aside for pram etc.

Peasplease12 · 27/06/2022 09:37

Bought the pram at 22-ish weeks as I wanted a running pram and found one on special offer.
We have bought lots of little things second hand and have a list of little things to buy new which I’ll do at some point but nothing has a long delivery time so no rush.
We havent yet bought a next to me crib or car seat. Will get those in the third trimester (currently 26 weeks). The car seat needs to wait because we are changing our car as I’m pretty sure the old one will need more work than it’s worth at its next service. I’ve probably spent more time than is really necessary reading reviews to decide on the next to me crib and car seat we’ll get.
The cot and nursery stuff we’ll get after she’s born because we won’t be needing it straight away and the cats will only claim it as theirs if there’s not a baby in it

First baby I was 18 weeks, was a brilliant deal too good to resist. It didn’t arrive until around 24 weeks.

I don’t believe in luck or anything like that, we even put it up and walked round the house with it.

Applegreenb · 27/06/2022 09:44

I wait until 24 weeks, that when the pregnancy is classed as viable and the medics would interfere if you go into labour early. Before that it’s still classed as a miscarriage. Morbid way to look at it all sorry!

winterbabyrose · 28/06/2022 11:04

I waited until after my 20 week anomaly scan to start getting everything. I think we got the bigger items like the pram and cot when I was around 30 weeks.

There is no time limit, or right time to get everything. It is whatever you feel comfortable with. I personally waited until my anomaly scan, in case god forbid there was any issues, but it is completely personal choice 💐
