Hi all

Just after a few opinions. From Google searches it's best to stay away and I don't want to take the risk however ... we have been invited over for a bbq at friend's house next weekend who own 3 pet rats 🤦🏻‍♀️ DP doesn't like confrontation and can't say no. I
Don't want to go due to risk but I still think he's going to go without me .... is it worth him risking going and bringing anything home to me? They are not the type of people to leave their rats locked up in their cages just because they have guests. Think running over you while eating!!

Am I right to be upset if DP goes still?

I think you are overreacting a little bit. Surely if it’s a BBQ you’ll be outside? Understandable to be worried but your partner is very very unlikely to bring anything back. Gross that they let the rats out and have them running over guests when eating (esp as they pee everywhere if I remember from the pets I had as a kid) but as long as your DP doesn’t hold the rats or clean the cage and washes his hands he is very unlikely to get it. The house mouse is the biggest source of LCMV so pet rats are very low risk any way.

Maybe I am yeah- it is more their house and outside not just sticking to outside.

Thanks @GrowBabyGrow also
The rats walk over DP and he doesn't say to take them off him.

Rats are actually very clean animals! They can be litter trained like cats and its a misconception that they are dirty especially pet rats! Chances of them carrying any diseases etc is very low, what do you think people who own rats or work in a vets etc do when pregnant? They don't avoid them that's for sure!

I would go and maybe just say to your friend if they get too close for your liking, either that or I wouldn't be mad if DP went and I didn't!
