I’m completing my 11th week tomorrow which means I’m nearing the first milestone. I’m really really excited (although I started thinking about labour for the first time yesterday and it freaked me out!) is anyone else pregnant and really excited (and maybe a little bit scared!)

Petrified of birth

KayC19 · 25/06/2022 18:54

@Lookingonthebrightside2022 me! I'm 10 weeks and have been super upbeat, even during morning sickness, but this morning was when the anxiety started around the future of what's to come: the worry of ensuring I stay healthy throughout pregnancy as well as birth in general. I think once I've had the 12 week scan and know everything is okay, it'll calm part of my anxiety, but I'm just focusing on enjoying every moment of the journey!

@confusedbythis1 i had the same moment yesterday. Really got scared. 1st time for you?

@KayC19 Not too long till your scan now. Wishing you all the luck in the world. I’ve had a few scans already due to minor complications but I can’t wait for the 12 week one. It’s so reassuring when you see your baby and they tell you everything is fine. It’s been really really stressful so far but everyday I wake up grateful. Keep your chin up!

Yea scared of dying threw childbirth it's awful cuz it just plays with your head and you can't get on with life crying every day wanting to shut your thoughts off and you can't people won't listen to what your saying they just say you will be fine

I'm 22 weeks and have just started thinking about the birth as I've always been terrified so in denial so far. I've read a hypnobirthing book and am going to do an online course I found that was much cheaper than in person classes. I'm feeling much more positive about the birth after just the free intro class i watched on YouTube so I'd definitely recommend looking into hypnobirthing!

@confusedbythis1 that sounds pretty serious. I am afraid but I’m not ‘afraid to death’ literally. You might want to get some help with that. I know what you mean about no one listening, I’ve been seriously struggling with bad thoughts since my last mc, and any bleeding I have now automatically triggers really bad thoughts. When I mention it to the midwives etc they just scate over it, saying I’ll be fine, maybe they say it because they havnt been through it, I dunno. If you can get someone to talk to and to take you seriously that might lessen your extreme feelings. It’s very lonely - I’m here if you want to talk x

@justanotherlaura I’ve just started looking into this too. Glad you are feeling better. I’m also considering a doula at the birth. I’m not sure but I feel like I could do with some back up! Just anything to make for a better experience. How you feel at 22 weeks? (Apart from the impending dread of birth?) has it all been going smoothly?

Honestly girls don't be petrified of birth it's generally not that bad, it's more achey than painful, but like a strong ache that makes you groan a bit. The ones you see on TV are OTT, birth honestly isn't all that bad when you're doing it. I remember just thinking right time to push this baby out and meet them!

Lookingonthebrightside2022 · 27/06/2022 09:52

@lyns86x I feel it can go either way, it’s probably gonna be fine, but it could be awful. There is also the real risk of death! I guess there’s no point really dwelling on it too much, nothing much you can do to control the outcome. I’m so looking forward to meeting my baby! Keep saying to myself I can’t wait, and then I’m like no you have to wait.... lol

@lyns86x Thanks for the reassurance

Highly recommend Hypnobirthing too. There is an online course run by Positive Birthing Company which is cheaper than the face to face ones. I found it so helpful to prepare myself (and my partner) for birth.
