High hcg MoM and oddly high risk of ds at 19 yrs of age?

My obstetrician said my hcg was the only thing elevated on the blood tests for downsyndrome,it was 4.3 MoM when it’s supposed to be 1.0 .My risk for downsyndrome was 1 out or 500 which is rather high for someone my age and my moms no help at all for questions all her pregnancies were 1/100000 risk for it and went smoothly and here I am 19 with all these high risks. They said that a high hcg value means increased risk for preeclampsia and intra uterine growth restriction. He was also hinting at that high hcg can mean birth defects and minor defects in the baby at the 20 week scan and now I’m scared to go as I know ultra sound techs don’t tell u jack and I’ll have to wait a week for my results and they’ll call if something is wrong.I am getting super depressed and feel like I can’t even make a healthy baby or have a normal pregnancy without issues.Nothing reassures me.Has anyone here has high hcg and didn’t have issues with the pregnancy?

Hi @19andhighrisk you could get the NIPT test which would give you a more accurate idea of the risk of DS.

I don't have any experience of high hcg but I had some abnormalities at my 20 wk scan. I was told straight away what was wrong so I didn't have to wait a week. Are you in the uk? It's normal to be given results straight away in England.

I’m in Canada. Here we have to wait until the radiologist sends the results to your doctor and then the doctor calls you if there’s something wrong usually within a week.I’m sorry thats happened to you that’s exactly what I fear will happen to me .. every day closer to that ultrasound I dread .I would much rather get told on the spot if everything’s alright or something is wrong

It's so stressful when things like this happen in pregnancy, especially when you have to wait so long to find out about next steps etc! Do you have friends or family to talk to about how your feeling?
I see someone mentioned the NIPT already. Has your midwife or obstetrician talked to you about this? Much more accurate in terms of chance of Down's syndrome, edwards, and patau.

I'm confused. I'm also in Canada. We just privately paid for the panorama test (NIPT) and had the results back a week later. Can you do that?

Have you been very sick? Some people with hyperemersis have high HCG? I think your levels don’t seem anything to worry about at the moment.

19andhighrisk · 04/07/2022 15:42

I can’t afford it.They said they’re cover it if I was high risk but I am not based on the scan so I’ll have to pay full price .

My Ob talked to me about it .Didn’t say much about risks of other syndromes but downs.1 in 500.Basicaly said the high hcg can mean my placenta isn’t as good quality ..which can lead to iugr and stuff
