Hi, I am new to Mums net and 22weeks pregnant.

I have been reading that often after the birth mums lose lots of hair but I seem to be shedding loads throughout my pregnancy. A little worried, am taking my vitamins and eating healthily but still losing a hairbrush full every day!
Anyone else having the same problem?
Thanks,
Mum2Scrap

Normally you grow more hair than usual during pregnancy so maybe with you the shedding/growing process is just going in faster cycles than usual? If you are really worried try talking to a trichologist. I grew tons of hair during pregnancy (both times) then it went when I stopped b/f.

I gave birth 5 months ago and my hair is coming out in handfuls - not bald yet though!!

i was anemic while pregnant and losing my hair speak to gp who can arrange for blood test

could just be hormonal but blood test will tell

scaryhairycat · 15/01/2008 14:53

Yes!!! Not now at all (38+1) but up until about 20/24 weeks or so it was falling out all over the place! My hair never looked like it was thinning particulary, just falling out loads. Drove dh bonkers as he kept finding my hairs on his clothes and getting tangled up elsewhere (iykwim!) I have heard it's because you are growing more hair and it's simply old hair getting pushed out to make room.

Thanks very much for your tips - will definitely arrange a blood test as have fainted once and been quite dizzy.
Not quite got the glow that everyone raves about!!

Was eating really healthily too and been taking prenatal vitamins for a few months before I even got up the duff, so it wasn't a nutritional problem!

Phew thanks scaryhairycat (love the name ;)) that is a relief to hear someone else went through the same thing. I spend at least an hour of my day picking hairs off my clothes, sofa, floor, husband etc!! x

Hi, just to let you know i was losing so much hair at around the same time as you. Our shower actually became blocked because of all my hair. It has calmed down alot now so dont worry too much!! xx

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 15/01/2008 17:49

I'm also losing hair (25 weeks pregnant) - which annoys me as I was looking forward to the period of no hair loss! I was told it's a case of some woman do and some woman don't, but if you have fainted and have felt dizzy, it's best to get it checked out.

I'm completely the opposite. I am 20 weeks and seem to be sprouting a new hairline! All around the front of my hairline I have got new hair growing, which really does look strange, especially if I tie it up. Is this all likely to fall out after the birth? I am in danger of becoming a yeti otherwise

i did after giving birth, for about 5months they tested my blood twice and they just concluded that it was just my body getting back to normal
