12 week scan - partners allowed?

I called today to change my appointment time (all fine there) and stupidly double checked that DH would be allowed with me. The person I spoke to said he would be allowed in the waiting room, but not in for the scan.

The hospital (St Thomas’) website says you can bring “1 support partner to all planned scans”. Was I wrong to interpret this as DH being allowed in the room with me? I’m hoping the person on the phone just has outdated information…

The hospital near me was the other way round. Partners were allowed in for the scan but not in the waiting room so i wonder if the told you the information the wrong way round.

I had my dating scan last week and my husband was allowed in the waiting room, as well as into the scan. No masks required in my maternity unit either.

I suspect the information you were given was wrong. Partners have been allowed in to 12 week scans for many, many months now.

Thanks all - I thought it seemed wrong that he could sit and wait inside but not come in.

Maybe phone back and check? I would be very surprised if they're not letting partners in now

QueenOfWeeds · 21/06/2022 18:28

I realise the grown up thing to do is to phone back, but I don’t really want to because it was asking on the phone that muddled me! If I’d gone off the information on the website then we would both be happy that he could come in.

Will keep an eye on the website and hope for the best. DH will come (even if only to sit in the waiting room!) so it doesn’t really change anything, except my anxiety levels!

Most hospitals are now saying that partners/support partners are free to attend scans if they want to

I had my baby in January so was 12 weeks along almost a year ago and husband was allowed in back then even!

Feelingpositive2021 · 21/06/2022 18:52

I had my 20 week scan at st thomas a few
weeks ago, partners were allowed in the scan but had to wait in a separate waiting room! You can just go and grab them, message them when your called up.

Thanks everyone!

I had my 12 week scan a few weeks ago and my partner had to wait outside the maternity unit and then I went and got him when I was called for a scan and he could come into the room x

Is that St Thomas in London? I had my 12 week scan there last month and he was allowed in just not th waiting room. He also came to 8 week scan.

wishuponastar1988 · 21/06/2022 22:25

I had my 12 week scan (in the north west) in January and partner was allowed in. He was also allowed for the 20 week and the most recent growth scan. Usually it says on the website but I would be surprised if they were the rules now!

QueenOfWeeds · 01/08/2022 13:52

Quick update: we had the scan last week and DH was absolutely allowed in, no issues at all. V glad to have him there.

Thanks everyone!

There were also partners in the waiting room for the scan and the blood tests :).
