I'm 38+1 today. Yesterday I had a midwife appointment, my blood pressure was high (its been rising a little the past 10 days, I've been checked a few times but so far it was just borderline and nothing needing to be done). I'd also felt baby had moved super low yesterday and was feeling lots of pressure in my pelvis. So I went off to the hospital because of my BP, and the doctor started me on meds for that - not unexpected really as i had preeclampsia in my first pregnancy but i had started hoping i might have avoided it this time!
Whilst there I was aware of stronger braxton hicks and when on the monitor we realised they were pretty regular. The midwife examined me and to my surprise I was 2cm dilated! So I headed home. Of course once home I got busy with sorting childcare, making dinner, packing up my daughters things, dashing about putting the last minute things into my bag, writing my birth preferences down.. and realised that the tightenings/contractions had totally stopped.

I've had continuous cramps since yesterday evening and some spotting (maybe its a show?) but no surges or anything resembling a contraction. Managed to sleep for a few hours but now been awake for the early hours with a headache and cramps and can't sleep, but still no contractions. Feeling a bit deflated, as the midwife who examined me seemed really positive that things were starting up and I got all excited!

I guess I'm going to try to rest/bounce on my ball/walk etc today and hopefully things will kick in again. Daughter is with her dad and will be there for the weekend now (or until she has her new baby sister!) So at least I can focus on relaxing and thinking dilating thoughts!

Pinktruffle · 23/09/2022 12:47

Good luck @ImReadyForThis ! How old is your daughter? I'm sure she will love being a big sister - hopefully by the time the weekend is up!

Smarsh32 · 23/09/2022 13:23

Thank you all for your kind messages and I cant wait to read your messages when you all have your lovely little babies ❀️❀️ xxx

ImReadyForThis · 26/09/2022 11:06

@Pinktruffle she's 7 and is so excited but struggling with the uncertainty about when baby will arrive now that it's so close.
Nothing has happened over the weekend, just the odd crampy tightening but definitely no baby yet! They're worried about whether baby's growth has slowed some more, but not sure whether they can fit me in for a scan today when I go back to DAU for blood pressure and monitoring, or whether that will have to be another visit tomorrow.
Anyway, c section is booked for a week on Thursday at 40 weeks if I haven't gone into labour by then so either way it won't be long now.

@Smarsh32 Hope everything is going well for you and baby is doing well!

Smarsh32 · 07/10/2022 10:17

Hope everyone is OK!xx

Pinktruffle · 07/10/2022 11:29

@Smarsh32 My little boy made a dramatic entrance in to the world on 4/10! I can't believe I'm a mum of two now. My eldest has been a wonderful big brother so far but it is tough having 2 to look after, my eldest is 21 months so I really have my hands full. My mum has been staying to help and I think I may have to petition to get her a knighthood haha, she's been wonderful. Ended up having an emergancy section but it was only a schedule 2 emergancy so fairly relaxed. Pain on the whole has not been as bad as the first but the trapped wind has been seriously awful this time, it causes really sharp pain. Can't wait for that to go.

Best of luck to everyone else, I hope some of you will be joining me on the other side soon.

Hi all,

Is there anyone based in north London on this thread who would be open to participating in mother-infant observations as part of my training as a child psychotherapist?

This consists of weekly observations within the home of the baby's first year of life, how they grow and develop and helps me as a trainee counsellor understand what it like being a child growing up, discovering the world, forming relationships and regulating emotions. It's a super key part of training child psychotherapists and is a great thing to helping research and understanding children.

I've spent years working in schools with children with special educational needs and as nanny so I'm used to being around children so I understand some of the struggles and the joys that come with children. My role is purely observational, non-judgemental and confidential focusing solely on the baby's development.

Please see my flyer for more information and feel free to message me with any questions.

Thanks,

Niamh

@Pinktruffle congratulations!! That is amazing news ❀️ how wonderful!! What is his name?! We called our little girl Robyn. I cannot believe how fast time is flying by now! I bet you must have your hands full, but in the best possible way ❀️ glad the pain isn't too bad from the section, mine seems to be ok too, just trying to keep the scar dry now! Glad all is good with you and that is wonderful news to hear ❀️
@noshea - sorry I am miles from London, I am down in the south west. Hope you manage to find someone soon!

ImReadyForThis · 16/10/2022 08:05

Congratulations @Pinktruffle!
Thought I had better update too - our baby girl was born on 5th October! The day before my scheduled c section! I was so pleased to go into labour before the section date, and I had a successful vbac. It was amazing! Intense, fairly quick, with a 3rd degree tear, but amazing nonetheless.
She's doing well though has been slow to get the hang of feeding. She's almost back to birth weight now so hopefully I can stop the extra pumping and expressed milk top ups within another few days.
My big girl is doing fab as a big sister, though I can see she is finding it tough having to share me now, after 7 years as my only one. Splitting myself in two is a bit overwhelming at times but we will settle into new routines and work it all out.

Smarsh32 · 16/10/2022 14:51

@ImReadyForThis - congratulations!! Thats amazing news ❀️ so pleased to hear everything went well. Its a crazy time adjusting I must say.. cannot believe my little girl will be a month old on Thursday.. where on earth has that time gone!!

CoolBananas21 · 16/10/2022 22:47

Hi everyone. Congrats that all is well that is great news. I was due my first daughter on 23rd oct and ended up having her seven weeks early due to Covid. It turned out to be pneumonia Which turned out to be something more sinister but ended up all fine and outing this in here incase anything comes up in here similar as I know Covid is doing that rounds xxx

Pandabuggle · 17/10/2022 09:41

I had my little boy 10/10/22 via elective csection. Baby was absolutely fine, passed blood sugars first time, I however went downhill after having my tea and toast in recovery. Felt very spaced out and vomiting. Apparently my temperature dropped to 35c.

Had me on IV antibiotics and in hospital til Wednesday evening. Had to have my dressing changed several hours after surgery then had my hand swell with the cannula so that had to have that resituated and ended up with an anesthetist having to take 3 attempts and eventually having to put it in my arm near my elbow!

I then had to go back Friday as my wound was bleeding, after 6 hrs I was told that's supposed to happen with type of closure I had and it allows to drain! A previous Dr said he was going to resuture it which would have possibly caused further infection.

Hopefully everyone else has had a smoother journey!

1stTimeTina · 19/10/2022 10:07

Congrats on all the babies , hope you’re all doing well and taking the time to heal post birth!

@pandabuggle I’m sorry to hear you’ve had such a rough ride , I had an awful experience my first time round and i understand how traumatic it can be! Hope you’re getting the opportunity to rest where possible xx

our little boy arrived 2nd Oct, contractions started Thursday night , they were very sporadic and waters didn’t go til Sunday morning, then he was born later that day! He’s lovely, already caught a cold thanks to big sis so he’s sounded like a little piggy bless him but other than that all is well :)

oh just wanted to add , my epidural only
took to half my body, it did the exact same thing with my first child, has anyone else experienced this? I must have a dodgy spine!

amyrose223 · 22/10/2022 20:19

Hey guys, new here! I was meant to be due beginning of nov, but got told I'm getting induced next Tuesday due to measuring small and reduced movements, has anyone else been induced here? How did it go? And how long did it take? I know everyone is different but I hope I'm not in too long! X

Smarsh32 · 04/11/2022 12:01

@amyrose223 hey I hope all went well!
