Going private for NIPT

Hi

Has anyone went private for the NIPT? Just wondering how long it usually takes for results. Are they emailed, or a letter sent out? Also, is the gender detailed within the results, or does it come separately?

Thanks

Mine took 5 working days to come back and was sent via email and had the gender with the results.

Assuming you are in the UK? You need to ask these exact questions to the clinic you are going to! In the early days for NIPT- all samples were sent to the US for testing- which obviously adds time to getting the results back. Some companies still send to the USA, but many don't- so just ask before choosing a clinic.

For getting the results- ask what THEIR process is for both good and bad results? In my case, my 1st pregnancy had patau syndrome, picked up on private NIPT at 11 weeks. They phoned and spoke to me, then had booked a follow up, more detailed scan the next day for me. Counselling was offered and I felt very supported.

I've heard of some clinics just texting or telling bad results- then telling women to find either an abortion clinic or a hospital for follow up!!! This, IMO, is appalling and not what I would choose at all. My results came within 5 days- but testing was local and not in the USA. Best of luck OP.

Hi had the harmony test a few weeks ago

they called and emailed me a week later to tell me no issues. the body of the email itself said no issues and they left me a voicemail to say the same

then the more detailed info and gender were in the letter attached to the email.

Mine took the full ten days to come through, had it done through ultrasound direct. They said the sex would be in the body of the email, but it wasn't, it was detailed in the letter attached. Might have been because they rushed the email due to me chasing.the results as they had told me it would be seven working days, not ten

Mine took 5 working days, results by email as an attachment. Sex was in the results attachment.

I live rurally so only had one clinic we could access easily but they tested in the UK not US.

Merryclaire · 17/06/2022 07:21

Mine was sent to the US for testing (Panorama) but still only took about a week. The clinic explained they would call with my results either way, which they did.

They explained everything came back low risk, double checked if I wanted to know the gender at that stage - I said please could they email that over on the report rather than tell me on the phone, as I wanted DH to find out at the same time as me.

When he got home, we opened the report together and the gender was clearly marked near the top of the report.

Littlebean23 · 17/06/2022 07:25

Roughly how much do these tests cost in the UK please?

Merryclaire · 17/06/2022 07:30

@Littlebean23 roughly between £400-650 depending where you go and what test you have

CornishGem1975 · 17/06/2022 08:02

It was about 7 working days, cost £400.

Tacoboutit · 17/06/2022 15:10

5 working days, gender was included in the report but my consultant had asked did we want to “opt in” to find out gender. Report was emailed to me by my consultant however had there been any issues he would’ve called me.

YouBoggleMyMind · 17/06/2022 15:49

I had the IONA NIPT (lab is in Manchester) and my results took 9 working dates to come back via email. £399 and I opted to find out the sex of the baby.

YouBoggleMyMind · 17/06/2022 15:49

8 working days sorry*

Laura236 · 17/06/2022 15:50

I got mine back within 3 working days. And mine cost £355 through the hospital
