Pregnancy fatigue!

Hi everyone,

First time pregnancy over here!

I am 15 +4 and still so tired! I am sleeping for like, 9 hours a night. I am fortunate enough that at the moment I don’t have taxing days at all (currently on study leave) and I am still napping for at least 2 hours a day. I just had a 3 hour nap after a friend popping in for a cuppa for a couple of hours.

Is this normal to be sleeping this much? Is it likely I have low iron or something? I keep waiting for this magical rush of second trimester energy everyone keeps telling me about!

I was that tired for all of 1st trimester. It has only now started to subside at 17 weeks. Hopefully for you in the next week or two your hormones will start leveling out and you'll feel a bit more energetic.

There's no tiredness quite like early pregnancy tiredness! I found it harder than the lack of sleep when DD1 was actually born. I'm pregnant again now, and it's relentless. Just bone tired all day!

Do you have any of the other low iron symptoms like feeling dizzy, breathless, unusually pale etc? If yes then definitely worth getting your midwife to take bloods at your 16 week appt.

If you're concerned about iron levels then it is worth making sure you don't have tea/coffee at the same time as a meal (especially not an iron rich one!) as it inhibits absorption. You can also add some gentle iron tablets into your vitamin regime too so you can up the iron levels.

I also never had the burst of energy! Growing a human is exhausting, and it's ok to just embrace what your body is telling you and rest more.

I was like this in my second pregnancy. Iron levels came back normal but I found taking a B complex really helped. GL x
