Thought I was 6 weeks but nothing in gestational sac. Potentially 4-5 weeks?

First day of last period was the 3rd of May. I had sexual intercourse on the 17th/18th/19th of May. Due to my workings out, today I would be 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant.

I had a scan today due to bleeding which started yesterday and has continued through to today.

During the scan the sonographer asked me if I could possibly be earlier in my pregnancy as they couldn’t see anything inside the gestational sacs. (They found 2) but said the second could be anything.

I can’t remember if they said they saw a yolk sac or not.

They have asked me to come back in a weeks time to get another scan to check for growth.

I asked if I should be concerned and they said that they wouldn’t be concreted whatsoever if I was 4-5 weeks but I just don’t see how that is possible?

From the dates above is it possible I could be only 4-5 weeks pregnant??? Or has this happened to anyone else and it's all be fine at the next scan?

Thanks in advance all!

Sacs were measuring about 3x4x4mm

Was this an NHS scan or a private scan?

Did you track ovulation?
How long normally are you cycles?

So if you ovulation around the 14 day mark you would be 6 weeks, or if you ovulate later then yes you'd be earlier than you think.

I went along for an early scan at 7 weeks due to spotting and a previous blighted ovum and they saw an empty sac. I was so worried. They said come back in a week. I spent that week seeing pregnant people everywhere I went and basically crying.
I went back at 8 weeks and there was the baby, perfectly fine and measuring 8 weeks on the nose. I was so shocked. My son is now 8 and almost as tall as me!
I was told it’s just not an exact science at that early stage. I wish you all the best with it and try to keep busy in the week you’re waiting.

With those intercourse dates, you could technically have conceived as late as May 23 or so as sperm lives for a few days inside you when you're approaching ovulation. That would make you just over 5 weeks.

Unless you are tracking ovulation then it's impossible to say with any certainty just based off period dates, especially if your periods are not always regular. I have long cycles that can vary in length so my last period date always makes me a week or two ahead of what they think I should be, which means I've twice had my 12-week scan booked too early despite my protestations!

HSKAT - I didn’t fully track ovulation but done a ovulation test on 18th and 19th and very strong lines. 23rd I done another and the line was extremely faint.

First faint positive on the 27th of May then a confirmed digital on the 29th.

Cycles over the last couple of months have been ranging from 25-32 but my app says average 28 day cycle.

Hugasauras does that above help work anything out?

Twoanklebiters thank you for that. Makes me feel a little better. I’m hoping that come my next scan they will see something! I hate the waiting around not knowing :(

Something similar happened to my sister. The first doctor even told her it was probably a miscarriage.

After a few days and a new dr everything was fine.

Her baby will be 7 in September.

This happened to me. Went for a scan at 6 weeks to be told I was measuring 4 weeks. This meant I got my positive test at just less than 3 weeks so I was told I had miscarried but they would scan again in a week to certain. At 12 weeks I was a week behide my dates & my daughter was born perfectly healthy on her due date.

How heavy is the bleeding that you’ve had? If it’s red and period-like and has continued that way for two days, and given the fact you were measuring behind, I would be prepared for bad news unfortunately. If it’s just spotting then that’s less concerning.

There are many people who’ve had positive outcomes though. It’s just a case of wait and see which I know doesn’t help with the anxiety in the meantime 💐

HJx · 16/06/2022 21:40

Wow! When they told you that you were measuring 4 weeks could they see anything inside the sac? Thank you for taking your time to comment. Im glad you had a positive outcome!

Moonshine - thanks for your reply! Would say more than spotting but no where near as heavy as my normal period would be. Sadly it is fresh blood! But we will see. Im still holding onto hope but also if it’s not meant to be then it’s not meant to be. Fingers crossed!!!

They couldnt really see anything. I wasn't even shown the screen as there wasn't anything to see. I also have bright red bleeding on & off till I was 16 weeks

HJx · 18/06/2022 09:29

Holding onto hope here but did any suffer from heavy bleeding for a few days and passing small clots whilst pregnant with twins around 6ish weeks? No cramping!
