39 weeks and pain in ribs

I'm just recovering from a bad cough and cold. Three days ago I developed a pain on the left hand side of my rib cage, just around the side of my boob. It's tender to the touch but really hurts when I cough or try to take a deep breath, so I'm having to breathe quite shallowly. Paracetamol doesn't really help. Any ideas what it could be? I've read about rib flare - could it be that? Thing is stretching/exercising doesn't help.

I would think the most likely thing is that you have strained your intercostal muscles with the coughing. Stretching and exercising may exacerbate the problem. You need to rest if this is the case.

Am no expert though!

Yes, I did think that the coughing may have been responsible! Rest not easy with 2 year old but will try - thanks for your help.

This happened to me after a really bad cough. It got better eventually!

I had awful pain in my rib at around 39 weeks, I couldn't lie down at all and had to sleep sitting up! It was horrible.

My GP thought baby was pushing and kicking in that area and there wasn't much that could be done, he prescribed ibruprofen gel which didn't help much.

I think that rib pain is pretty common in the late stages of pregnancy but it doesn't usually last long!

Ooodle - you there? I've just done exactly the same thing this morning. Got a 3yo toddler, baby due in 3 weeks and I coughed this morning. I can barely breathe or move from the pain.
How did you deal with it? Are you still in pain? HELP!!!!
