Self employed Maternity Leave

I'm 10 weeks Pregnant after a looooong 5 years trying to conceive and though it's still early days for us I'm trying to get my head around self employed maternity allowance.

I have a number of work contracts potentially starting just 3 months after my due date but all in all its only around 3 days per week for 4-8 weeks. My question is does Maternity allowance automatically stop after your 10 KIT days or would I be able to work those weeks and then go back on mat allowance?

Also, Is it a bit naive to think I'd be prepared to go back after just three months?

I was on maternity allowance last year, you can use your 10 KIT days (even one hour counts as a day). You have to inform them by phone if you return to working, the maternity allowance will stop but can be reactivated again once you stop working (it can be used anytime in first year of their birth). Alternatively if you are returning to 3 days a week, they can pay you for 4 out of 7 days a week instead. I did this for the last couple of months of my leave (worked 2 days a week received 5/7ths of the pay). Hope this makes sense.

@LNM88 It does! That's amazing and super helpful, thank you! Is it means tested do you remember? If you earn over a certain amount on those days you do work do they just stop it or do you get the money regardless? Sorry for all the questions just trying to work out what is best to do.

No its not means tested, it doesn't matter what you earn on the days you work, it's just paid at the weekly rate minus the days you work.
