21 week anomaly scan

So today I had my 20/21 anomaly scan with a doppler scan.
All looking good, all organs present, seen and growth is at 70th percentile. Doppler scan showing that blood flow to baby is good.
Then got told that baby possibly has 4 blood vessels instead of three when checking the fetal heart whilst doing a 3vv and 3vt check. So second senior sonographer was called in who said the same and said it's atypical not abnormal.
So then I had appointment with consultant who said it's atypical again, said she sees it once a year and decided it's best to refer to fetal cardiologist for ecg and opinion.
No heart disease or diabetes in the family and non smoker too. My fetal screening came back as low risk too.
So this kind of shook me and I don't know what to think. There's not much literature online either.
Has anybody come across this and what was the outcome. Some reassurance would be greatly appreciated.

@Arthursmom I am concerned that the baby's femur did not grow enough for nearly 3 weeks? Maybe I am too paranoid 😔🥺

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 12/07/2022 19:48

@Mizzy19

My husband has four vessels coming off the aorta instead of the usual three. He's always been fit and healthy.

He had no idea until he required heart surgery recently on his aorta (nothing to do with the 4th vessel).

@Vg92 seems fine to me. Unused this after all my scans. If you pop in the info on the scan it'll tell you how the wee one is doing.

So pleased and relived for you that all looks well, fingers crossed last scan goes fine and no op will be needed post birth 🤞

Mizzy19 · 23/07/2022 23:41

Latest scan showing that baby boy's heart is strong and growing well.
So hopefully no intervention.
They just not sure about the aortic arch business purely because they don't know, so it's a case of being transferred hospital around week 31-34 and once baby born, monitored like a hawk there.
So hoping for a positive no intervention outcome.

Ah so pleased and relieved for you 😊 when you say transferred to hospital do you mean you’ll have to live in the hospital from week 34? 😬

Mizzy19 · 28/07/2022 21:13

@00kitty all my notes and future scans and appointments will be at new hospital as they have specialists there. Also my delivery too. That's all. My local one was 5mins down the road. This one will be 45mins to an hour.

That’s brilliant, reassuring that you’ll be where all the resources are when he arrives if needed. Please do update the thread with a squishy newborn photo upon arrival 🥰

Any update @Mizzy19 im hoping you are cradling a perfectly healthy baba and are doing well yourself? 💛

Hi guys, just an update from my initial thread for anyone following.
So week 38, my waters broke (for two weeks before, had mucus plug come put bit by bit everyday).
Called hospital and ended up in triage and was told I'm 3cm dilated. Admitted late evening and told they'd do c section next day around 7-8am. Midnight, contractions decided to kick in all of a sudden, was then checked and 5cm dilated. Couldn't take the pain, so they decided to do emergency c section by which time, I got to theatre was 8cm dilated.
Went with c section and baby got stuck, so they called consultant who got baby out safely.
Baby boy born at 38+1 weighing 6lb10oz. He was taken to NICU.
Baby stayed there for two nights for monitoring of heart and flow, with ECG scans etc all done. Everything looking pretty good and no treatment required just slight turbulence nothing that needs treatment. Third day, both of us discharged and baby to be seen in two weeks for follow-up. So glad he's home.
I'm just grateful that it's all ok and having the 4th vessels hasn't caused any issues so far. Hopefully follow-up will be ok and then will be under hospital for a year for regular checks and eventually discharged.
I can only pray to God and be so thankful and grateful for this. I believed from day 1 that he would be ok and God has been kind. 🙏

Congratulations OP beautiful baby boy.
Thank you for updating, I'm sure this thread will bring someone a lot of hope when they find themselves in a similar place, one day.

rickandmorts · 24/10/2022 09:44

Thank you for the update and Ruben is just beautiful 😍 congrats xx

DysmalRadius · 24/10/2022 09:49

Congratulations!!!

00kitty · 26/10/2022 23:35

Aww, he’s perfect, congratulations. So pleased he arrived healthy you can’t ask for anymore, hopefully the check ups booked in will act as a reassurance rather than a worry. Take care of yourself c section recoveries can be really frustrating. Thank you for coming back and updating us, nothing quite like a newborn to coo over 🥰
