Growth scan stories

Hello, just looking for a little bit of reassurance I guess.
I am 30+4 and had a growth scan today. My last growth scan was when I had just turned 28 weeks and she was measuring right on the 50th percentile. Today we were told she's measuring on the 80th percentile, her head and tummy are both measuring about 32 and a half weeks.
What are others experiences of this? The consultant wasn't concerned, but it just seems like a rapid growth in 2 weeks. My husband is 6ft 3 (with a big head he says 😂) so can it just be that she's a bigger baby?
Thank you 😊

Mine was the opposite, baby was measuring on 50th centile yet abdomen was on the 80 something centile. My baby was born 10 days later with an abdomen that was in proportion to the rest of his body.

Sorry just realised I've not answered what you were asking, I really need to stop skim reading!

I'm coming up to 35 weeks now and mine is measuring quite big in terms of the growth chart. At one point she went from 28cm to 34cm in 3 weeks?! No one seems too concerned though. I'm under consultant care for other reasons and they've mentioned offering an early induction after my 36 week scan if she's still growing quite substantially quick

I had a growth scan at 37 weeks and was given an estimated weight at 40 weeks of approx 6 pounds. Anyway he was born at 40+2 and was 9lbs13oz.
I literally don't know anyone who has had an accurate growth scan. Every single person o know has had the opposite of what they've been told 🙈

They’re mostly complete bollocks.

I've been provisionally booked for two growth scans due to advanced maternal age 🙄. When I had an appointment with the consultant a few days ago and it came up, I mentioned that I was concerned about the inaccuracy of them, especially if they're done by different sonographers. The consultant basically agreed with that deduction 🤷

Thank you all for your comments 😊 I think it was more the shock than anything and I'm trying to remind myself that the consultant wasn't concerned! I am booked in for an elective section anyway so I wasn't worried about birth, just want to make sure she's okay 💖

My second was on the 90th centile based on measurements and jumped from 50th to 90th in 2 weeks so I was sent for a growth scan and glucose test for gestational diabetes.
No diabetes and lo was born at exactly 40 weeks at 8lb 4 (50th centile)
My midwife said with the measurements that it's a bit like trying to measure a teddy bear in an inflated balloon by measuring the balloon not the teddy bear

I've just posted on another thread about growth scans. They're massively anxiety inducing and rarely accurate by all accounts.

I too am measuring big baby, one min it's a potential problem next min it's not, leaves things very ambiguous 🙄🤷🏼‍♀️

My baby boy was measuring on the bigger side on a growth scan and I was told that he will most likely be a bigger baby although still within the ‘normal’ range for my height and weight. He was born 9lbs 11oz so definitely a bigger baby but I know that growth scans aren’t always the most accurate.

Passanotherjaffacake · 10/06/2022 06:58

Was chatting to the sonographer doing my growth scan today and she said there was about a 20% chance of the weight estimate she gave me being right! Thought that was interesting. Good luck OP!

Sorry - yesterday, not today!!

Thank you all 🥰

I had my first one today and everything was where it should be at 28 weeks apart from the tummy which was measuring 30+6. He said that it was probably down to her position rather than it being accurate. I'm taking it with a pinch of salt as will be induced earlier due to my age and other reasons, plus have friends that have been told they're having 10lbers and they've had a 7 or 8lber :)

Firsttimetrier · 11/06/2022 07:19

My babes is also measuring on the bigger side of average at my scans, which is expected as I have gestational diabetes.

He was 3lbs at 28 weeks then 4lbs 12oz at my 32 week scan. His stomach and head were above average in both scans, but I only had my GD picked up at 28 weeks, so hoping my scan in 2 weeks time shows that growth has slowed down.

I’m expecting him to end up around 7lbs 10oz if he continues to grow at this rate, which isn’t what I expected as I was a small baby (5lbs 10oz) 😅

Hiddenvoice · 11/06/2022 09:35

I had growth scans at 24,28,32,36 and 38 weeks. My baby jumped from 50th to 90th percentile so I panicked a little. I was booked for a c section at 39 weeks. At the 38 week scan the sonographer was able to tell me the size my baby would be at birth and she was spot on! My scans were all quite long though, ranging around 45 mins per scan
