Cyclogest or Pregnancy?

Morning ladies

I am currently 7weeks pregnant and I am worried that my symptoms are due to the cyclogest pessaries I am taking rather than my pregnancy. I am on 2 x 400mg pessaries daily.

My boobs are agony and have been so since my BFP. They are huge and it hurts when I walk about. I have slight heartburn that comes and goes and very slight nausea that also comes and goes, usually around dinner time. Have had a few headaches which I never get but they seem to have gone.

I'm just worried that I don't feel pregnant at all and the cyclogest is causing the other symptoms. I am also very teary and irritable which according to the packaging is also a side affect!!

First pregnancy so nothing to compare to and have my 8 week scan on Monday.

Oh and I am seriously bloated which again is probably due to the pessaries.

I was pregnant (mc) and on cyclogest recently. I found my symptoms felt much less pregnancy related and much more hormonal. I was very sick which I haven't been in previous pregnancies, my boobs hurt all of the time and I was super teary.

I guess it's just hormones on top of hormones. Best of luck to you Smile

Even if all your symptoms are due to the pessaries, that doesn't really mean anything - some pregnancies have no symptoms at all but progress normally all the same.

By the same token, all of your symptoms could be due to the pregnancy with no pessary side effects at all. I've been on the pessaries since 23 weeks (now 29) and while they did seem to have side effects at all these lasted just one or two days, then I was back to normal.

Most likely it's a bit of both xx

@Bristolgal567 how did things go for you??? I'm nearly 8 weeks and just found this thread looking for someone to allay the exact same fear! This is my third pregnancy after 2 MC's so I'm on the pessaries. I feel much more pregnant than I did with the other two - round the clock nausea (I had nausea with the others but not so much) and v sore boobs, but I'm frightened it's just the pessaries...

PS I'm from Bristol too :)

Bristolgal567 · 25/10/2022 08:59

Hey, it was pregnancy symptoms all along so don't worry!!!

@Tor88 how did things go for you too please? I feel so poorly and on pessaries after 3 MC’s. also so paranoid it’s the pessaries and not pregnancy :( x
Congratulations @Bristolgal567 - great to hear! X

@Els3086 it was pregnancy symptoms for me, I'm still paranoid something is gonna go wrong but I'm now 18+5 and so far so good. I came off the pessaries around 13/14 weeks and continued to feel very sick for a good few weeks after that so I'm pretty sure the pessaries were never creating 'false' symtoms.

Really wishing you the best of luck with it. Pregnancy after two miscarriages has been the hardest thing I've ever done (bar the losses themselves) so I can't imagine it after 3.... 🧡

@Tor88 that’s so great to hear! I have everything crossed for you that you continue to have a healthy pregnancy - will be thinking of you. I have a scan at EPU next Tuesday so keep everything crossed for me. Lots of love and good vibes x

Hey, wondering how you got on with the pessaries. I’m 23 weeks pregnant and doctor has just prescribed them for me as have had on off spotting (bleeding) for about 5 weeks now..

allgoodthings84 · 25/02/2023 12:19

@pm94 I was put on the pessaries on Tuesday at 13+3 weeks (until 16 weeks) as I had some brown blood in discharge for a few days that they couldn’t find a reason for (I have had 2 previous miscarriages). My nausea and sore boobs had just started to get better and the pessaries don’t seem to have made my nausea come back but my boobs have got a little bit sore again but nowhere like they were before 11 weeks. I don’t seem to have any side effects from them.

I don’t think I needed them as I have come to realise it only happened after I strained for bowel movements (it hadn’t clicked when I went to be checked) and I have had no more after I stopped straining to go but I’m taking them still as does no harm to baby just in case.
