How easy is it to tell the sex yourself at 20wks? Hospital won't tell me!

I've got my 20wk scan on 27th February, and both DP and I would really love to know the sex. Unfortunately, my hospital has a policy of not telling you and send out a letter asking you not to ask.

In any case, I wouldn't dare, as the sonographer was very moody at my 12wk scan and wasn't the sort of bloke to be moved by my pleas, I'm sure.

So, I'd like to know if anyone has been able to tell themselves. I presume it's easier to tell if it's a boy? Any information/tactics would be most appreciated!

Hmm, I thought there was new rules that they had to tell you if you asked but you would need to sign a disclaimer in case they were wrong. I thought this was everywhere but maybe its just at my local hospital. if you're really desperate you could always go private for an additional scan to check the sex

to the op;
a lot of hospitals are adopting this policy,
as unfortunately some mothers terminate the pregnancy, if the baby is not a boy.

I guessed both times. Was really confident with my second
Wrong both times

Well I had my 20 week scan yesterday and straight away I said to the sonographer lady 'that's a willy isn't it?!' At first she was reluctant to comment as she said she was 'superstitious' but it became even more obvious as the scan went on and in the end she said it was very likely to be a boy! If baby is at a good angle I think you may be able to tell yourself (says littlelamb who is now going to be very shocked if a girl comes out in 20 weeks )

Checked up pictures on the web before going for my scan and saw ultrasound pictures of the two lines = labia, two circles testicles that Mrs TittleMouse wrote about. Certainly helpful in avoiding the willy/umbilical cord confusion! I had my 18 week scan yesterday and when the doctor looked from underneath to measure the femurs it looked very very obvious indeed! Embarassingly so I thought! The doctor had said before that 18 wks was often too early to tell and he'd only say if he was absolutely positive. He said it was a boy too! Like Littlelamb I'm in for a big shock if I'm wrong...
