Is it normal to be broody after having a baby...?

I have a 4.5 month old DD who is an absolute angel, and I feel so broody and want another already! We do want little ones relatively close together and want to give her a little brother/sister she can grow up with close in age!

But it is normal to feel this broody so soon???

I did after DD2 despite the fact she was far from an easy baby and I didn’t want 3 children. It was hormones and my period returned a couple of weeks later.

winterbabyrose · 08/06/2022 16:06

Hmm yeah I was thinking it was hormones, but then again, my period returned when she was 8 weeks and I have been on the pill again since my 6 week GP appointment, so I would have thought my hormones would have settled by now, if it was that!

I was hugely broody in the first few months with my eldest - starting within an hour of birth. I hung in for 14m and then got pregnant with my second.

If it wasn't for the EMCS I had, we would be trying again already. But I have to wait 12 months at least (not been told this directly, just found out through doing some research), but I am not sure I can wait another 7.5 months ha! I love motherhood so much and can't wait to give my DD a little sibling! How did you hang out for 14m?! @Babyboomtastic

I did. I went from 'absolutely never, never again. No. More. Babies ' to desperate for another in the space of about 2 weeks when ds was about 6 weeks old! My two are 18 months apart.

OhamIreally · 08/06/2022 16:14

Yes normal I think. I didn't really want children, had a surprise baby quite late and was overwhelmed by this brilliant thing my body had done and wanted to do it again.

Didn't though and very happy with one Wink

PinkButtercups · 08/06/2022 16:17

Yes! It's very common.
DS slept through, didn't cry, he is the best boy. He's nearly 3 now and I held off until January this year to try again. Currently pregnant with twins 😁

I could have written this! Right down to the c-section, period at 8 weeks and on the pill post 6 week check up 😂 my baby is nearly 4 months though. I’m glad it’s not just me! I’ve put a note in my phone calendar to stop taking the pill in May 2023, it made me feel better but I completely understand! My baby is also quite difficult in terms of sleeping and she has bad reflux so I think hormones have a lot to answer for!!

winterbabyrose · 08/06/2022 16:20

@PinkButtercups Congratulations! How exciting!!

I am glad it isn't just me then, and I am not insane for eagerly wanting another! 😂

I didn't wait 12 months before getting pregnant, we just didn't take precautions, 13 months later DC2 arrived, then didn't take precautions.....

Dyra · 08/06/2022 16:58

Absolutely! I was ready to have another as soon as DC1 was born. Logic managed to prevail as I didn't think I would cope with 2 under 2, so managed to hold off until she was 18 months old. DC2 is nearly 3 months and so desperate for another again. Logic is currently prevailing again, but it's a lot harder this time....

babyboybluewithnumbertwox · 08/06/2022 17:00

@winterbabyrose Oh yes! With my first I was broody very badly in the first few weeks, it calmed down for a bit then came back when he turned one! We've just had our second 5 weeks ago and I keep thinking about another... I know it will pass. Our son turns two next Friday and I can't believe we are already at this stage so I think being broody stems from that also.

Pregnancy is a magical and crazy time!!

allthingssparkly · 08/06/2022 18:10

Yes, very common I fell pregnant with my second when my first baby was just over 7 months old 🤍 They argue now like cat and dog but when they get on its wonderful 🤭

It was a combination of my buddy bring screened from severe SPD (from first trimester) and also bring advised to wait 12m after a ELCS, and my husband wanting to wait a bit more.

Also, although I found newborns easy (even with awful sleeping) I know from others that often things got harder, so we perhaps best to wait. It did get a lot harder, so I wasn't in quite such a rush then!
