NHS NIPT test

Hi all, I'm 14 weeks pregnant and had our first trimester scan last week. The chance of baby having Downs syndrome came back as 1:120 so the NHS offered us an NIPT to test for chromosomal abnormalities, which I had last Tuesday. Waiting on results now which can come any time in the next week. I'm 30 and NT was 2.0 but I have slightly low PAPP A which is why they've calculated the chance of DS as high risk. Jw if anyone else has had NIPT on the NHS (UK) and how they found it and how long results took. Finding the waiting and worrying really tough - praying the results come back low risk and I don't have to have the CVS/amnio xx

I did, in my case it was private but NHS subsidised at my local hospital. It was just a normal blood test and think the results were back a week later. I also had low PAPP-A. I had mine done as due to my age and other factors I was advised it would be more reliable that the triple test. All was fine. Good luck xxxxx

Hi, I’ve just been through similar - they couldn’t get an NT measurement so mine was the quad test which came back as 1 in 40. We elected to have NIPT rather than amnio. It’s a horrible wait and literally nothing you can do, but there’s a much much bigger chance that everything is ok. I think 1 in 150 is the cut off so if your numbers were a teeny bit different you’d not even be higher risk.

The fetal medicine midwives were lovely and explained that it wasn’t just a 1 in 40 chance for us, it was 1 in 40 identical pregnancies (same age, weight, ethnicity, exactly the same blood hormone levels) that would be positive for Downs. I found that a lot better to get my head around and stay rational.

Our results took exactly 1 week and we were fortunate to be low risk for all 3. It was a huge relief, but a reminder that the worry never stops. There’s nothing worse than not knowing though - hopefully not too long for you now. I know exactly how it feels so take it easy and treat yourself to whatever you need 💐 x

@Emmzo thats a really useful explanation x

Hi all,
I am 13 weeks pregnant and we had our NIPT done by the NHS last week because the Nuchal Translucency scan came back as high risk (1:79) for
Down syndrome (trisomy 21). We just received the NIPT result which came back as a low chance/risk but I'm still worried about how reliable and trustable the NIPT results are (although they say 99.7% accurate). Did anyone encounter any scenario where the NIPT result contradicted the actual outcome? Please give me some advice. Thanks

I had my NIPT test on Monday last week. Still waiting. This waiting is killing me. Hope your results will go back soon and all will be fine 🙂 😊 ❤️xx

Hi all, so any of you have updates on how you all got on? I’m currently in the same boat and wanting to try to get all the reassurance I can. Our odds from combined test 1 in 100 for downs and 1 in 75 for edwards/patau due to our increased nt 4.5. had NIPT Wednesday which should come back next week, I feel reading others positive stories is what is keeping me sane at the moment, such worrying times for my first pregnancy :(

Natalierosex · 09/08/2023 22:11

Hey @Frenchie1204 im going through a similar experience, any updates? X

Ruthsoph · 10/08/2023 07:11

I have the NIPT privately and it came back 1:10,000 which was wonderful
however when we had the 12 wks can the NT was 4.8 so we had a CVS which came back positive for Down Syndrome we then had an amino Incase the DS was just in the placenta as that can happen but it was 100% positive for DS for our daughter
I am now pregnant again and not having the NIPT but straight for the CVS as just would t trust NIPT after our experience

Frenchie1204 · 10/08/2023 08:36

@Natalierosex unfortunately we lost our baby in December due to finding out the increased NT was in relation to a congenital heart disease. I am now nearly 25 weeks pregnant with a baby girl who is perfectly healthy. Please don’t let my experience worry you as every pregnancy is different and I’d seen a lot of women have a high NT and go on to have a healthy baby. Hope all goes well for you x

Natalierosex · 10/08/2023 09:44

@Frenchie1204 oh my I’m so sorry to hear that! What an awful experience.
did You miscarry or find out the news by the nipt results ? :(

congratulations on being pregnant again!
amazing news ! Glad everything is working out ❤️ xx

Frenchie1204 · 10/08/2023 10:51

@Natalierosex we got to 21 weeks when we discovered a heart problem and found out our chances were not good after a fetal echo and lost at 23 weeks. Thank you so much! I hope your pregnancy all goes okay for you! Xx

Hi all, I got a phone call yesterday saying that our chances of DS have come back at 1:66. I feel so lost and anxious and unable to be excited about pregnancy. NT was 2.7, hCGb 1.20mL, PAPP-A 0.32 🥲 I don’t know what to do with myself, I had a NIPT test this morning and I’m already finding the wait agonising. I don’t want to look at the scan photo or look at baby clothes, it feels so difficult to deal with. They’ve said even if NIPT comes back as negative that Il have to be under consultant led care due to PAPP-A result. 🙁
