Hi wondering if anyone else has been in my position, we are worried sick , I am age 38 and 13 weeks pregnant, my 12 week scan can back perfect no abnormalities everything how it should be and nt 1.2. However phone call two days ago been told my bloods have flagged up as increased risk 1:59 due to age and other factor hcg being 3.22, I’ve been for a harmony test but results take so long , I went to a private scanner and doctor who was so through checked everything on baby and put risk at 1:1317, however midwife phoned today and said that it dosent matter and Darby want me to have false hope that all
is ok 😕, anyone else been in this position? Does this mean my baby will defo have Down’s syndrome or Know what to make of all this ? It’s like torture having to wait 10 days I can’t do anything without breaking down . Please anyone x

Hi OP!

im 33 weeks now but after my 12 week scan I was given 1/26 chance of Down syndrome. The nt was slightly raised at 3.6mm and I think that was the main reason for me.
I had the NIPT and the agonising wait so I totally know how you feel. For me it came back all fine and every scan since has been fine.

it’s more likely than not that your baby is ok, I read a lot of posts on here when I was going through testing and I think age has a big factor in making the risks higher on the tests, not in reality.

I hope my post can give you some comfort xx

Your midwife is right in that the other private scan was pointless and doesn't counter the original 1:59 risk.

I don't see how you're jumping from 1:59 to thinking it means the baby definitely has DS? It literally means it has a 1 in 59 risk of having it - which means out of those there's still 58 chances of it not having DS.

You're just going to have to wait until the harmony results come through I'm afraid - that's usually a week or so if lucky so not long to go!

Thank you for your quick reply , it is comforting to know it’s not just me going through this pain , I’ve convinced myself that my baby has ds at the moment as the midwife’s keep being quite negative about it all I know there doing there job but I’m terrified and can’t pull myself together the wait is torture feels like my whole world has stopped completely and alll I do is cry, thank u for your message x

My child is 6 now but he had 1in5 chance of downs, edwards or patus. I had the amnio. Scan had also appeared perfectly normal. Amnio was clear. I got the first results within 24 hours whihc said no to downs edwards or patus but had to wait the 10 days for all the other millions of things it could have been but they were all clear

Hi,
I also had a clear 12 week scan with the NT 1. Something! My bloods came back 1 in 80 chance I was 34. I had an amino to be sure and she was fine, I had the low pap a and high hgc so had to have growth scans as it can also point to an issue with the placenta I think, it's a good job they saw this as she stopped growing at 34 weeks so had an emergency c section and the placenta was only half the size it should been. I know the wait is awful You will know soon, In my case it was good these things are done as saved her life at the end

I have yesterday had a call telling me our screening came back with a 1 in 2 chance of DS. I am having a CVS on Thursday.
I too am utterly shell shocked by the news and can only say that I am in limbo between "50% chance all is OK" and "50% chance this is life changing news".
My NT measurement has been "normal" but my blood HCG was 6.5 times higher than normal, and my Paap-A lower (0.1 below the "normal" cut off, so only just "low"). I am 37 so my age is a significant factor.

Hi @Confusedmummy83, I’ve just read your first post and I’m in exactly the same position as you, 13 week test showed nuchal clarity at 1.1mm which is good but bloods have come back and put me in medium risk at 1 in 200 chance. i know this is an old thread but how did everything work out for you? ❤️

Confusedmummy83 · 06/05/2023 17:39

Hi @Winnie40130 bless you I know exactly how you are feeling , but on a positive note we have a very happy 100% healthy baby boy now with no Down’s syndrome, born just before Christmas just gone , please stay positive I worried till when he arrived having every test offered to me but still couldn’t believe it when he placed in my arms xx

I thought 1 in 200 was low risk. Have they changed the parameters? My risk with dc2 was higher at 1 in 153 I think and nobody batted an eyelid.

1 in 200 is a 99.5% chance everything is fine.

Would you pout money on a horse that had a 1:59 chance of winning?
