6 weeks with horrible digestion issues

I’m 6 weeks pregnant and for a few days have had horrid stomach symptoms. I have major discomfort in my stomach where it feels like I’ve eaten a huge meal and it’s just not digesting the food. I wake up in the night feeling so rotten and nauseous. I have been constipated at times but then this morning, after being awake since 3am (despite hardly eating yesterday), I had diarrhoea. So now I’m just not sure how to approach it because with constipation I’d aim for fibre, water, fruit juice etc but I think it’s just terrible digestion in general.

Wondered if anyone had any tips about what to eat? Thinking I’ll probably avoid dairy for a while.

Im quite confident it’s pregnancy related because I’m well otherwise and when I had bloods done at 4 weeks my progesterone was very high, and I think it’s progesterone that affects digestion in early pregnancy.

thanks 😊

Sorry you're feeling rotten. Yep, unfortunately the rise in progesterone causes the issues. I felt full all the time and could barely eat 1/3 of a normal meal and went from constipated to diarrhea and back again. Keep yourself hydrated and try eating little and often? Things like crackers, breadsticks with dips. I just wanted cereal and stodge like bread/ pasta so just had to go with it. And Ice lollies were a godsend too.
I did try to console myself with the factvthT my body was doing what it needed to for the pregnancy so try and hold onto that if you can 😊

Thanks for your reply @Runkle ! Good to hear it’s not just me swinging between constipation and diarrhoea.

Yeah I think little and often will be key. I have ginger oatcakes in the cupboard and they feel kind of ok so I think a cracker/biscuit approach might be good.

Thanks too for the reassurance about it being my body doing what it needs to. As rotten as I feel I am totally onboard with this if I also have a healthy pregnancy. My last pregnancy was ectopic and with this one ill be happy just for it all to be ok even if it means feeling like the devil lives in my stomach 😆

As it happens I have a scan today to confirm location so 🤞 everything is ok and that I can stop feeling Ill long enough for an internal scan!
