Had a positive test at 7Dpo...

Start bleeding 8dpo and assume early period has arrived (breastfeeding still so short luteal phase, so wasn't expecting to conceive) so assume I've had a chemical pregnancy.

Bit upset dust off move on.

At 14dpo, after a 4 day period (or what I thought was a period) I have allll the pregnancy symptoms so I think... that's strange... do a test and get a blazing positive.

Speak to a doc who says the bleeding is unexplained nothing they can do at this stage but he confirmed I am pregnant and just have to see what happens and get scanned in a few weeks.

17dpo....mild pink spotting when I wipe once or twice during this day

19dpo.... red bleeding for about an hour and then it stops. Not heavy, no pain, other than the usual early pregnancy cramps.

I have absolutely NO idea what's going on.

Tests still very positive.

can anyone shed any light? I'm worried about low progesterone (breastfeeding) and also ectopic pregnancy.

I have so much going on right now in my personal life that I need to focus on and this is just breaking me to be honest. DH says I need to just distract myself and be patient but it's so so hard. I want this baby so much.

Any tips or anyone able to shed any light on what on earth is going on with my body and this pregnancy?

AIBU for not being able to just sit tight and wait? It's tearing me apart not knowing.

Could you get a scan done privately? Not sure if anything would show up anyway before 5 weeks

happypaps · 04/06/2022 21:51

@Kitten2 I'm 5 weeks now... private scan say 6 weeks at the earliest. Yeah I could and I think I will if I can't get one at EPAU

Can you request a blood test for hCG? If you have another one done in a couple of days time then this should indicate whether it’s ectopic or viable. My GP did this for me at 5 weeks after I’d had an ectopic in the past. It was normal and then the 6 week scan showed it was in the right place. He’s now 11
months old!

Good luck. I hope it works out for you! The waiting game is awful x

NoRegretsNoTearsGoodbye · 04/06/2022 22:34

My first viable pregnancy was like this - bled almost constantly for the first 12 weeks! It was bloody hideous so I really feel for you. He’s a hulking great teenager now so 🤞.

Greenqueen40 · 04/06/2022 22:41

If you are too early for a scan the only way to find out if a pregnancy is progressing is to get 2 bhcg's 48hrs apart. Your GP should do this for you and depending on the results can book a scan for you.

Plumbella · 04/06/2022 22:43

Mine was like this, I bled from week 6-10 but was proscribed progesterone which stopped the bleeding and I'm 16 weeks now so fingers crossed the little bean sticks for you too

BurnDownTheDiscoHangTheDJ · 04/06/2022 22:49

I had this with my second, also conceived while breastfeeding. Was told bleeding is a common side effect in pregnancies when you’re still feeding a-lot, especially overnight. I fed throughout with DD2 but the bleeding only went on until I was 20 weeks. An otherwise unremarkable pregnancy and she’s almost 7 now.

You can get a private scan anytime you wish. I had one done at 4W4D and it showed the sac and that it was not ectopic. Get one for your peace of mind xx

happypaps · 05/06/2022 07:08

It has been so reassuring to wake up and read all of your thoughts this morning. I'm feeling slightly more positive than I did last night.

I know I shouldn't keep testing but currently it's keeping me sane. Tests are still positive. If I have been miscarrying would the tests be slightly lighter/faded?

Those that have said they've had bleeding....

My bleeding is bright red but very light. No clots or pain.

Does this sound similar?

hollyjolly68 · 05/06/2022 07:56

I had a bright red bleed, had a scan all fine, they said it may be a burst blood vessel.

neverwakeasleepingbaby · 05/06/2022 07:56

Good morning! Glad you’re feeling more positive about it all. Do stop testing though. I just say this because it’s a waste of money to continue to do so…I tested positive for 2 months after my ectopic. Try to get through the next few days until you can have a scan at 6 weeks. I do know it’s so so tough to keep sane though. Good luck!

neverwakeasleepingbaby · 05/06/2022 07:57

I’m sure yours isn’t ectopic though!! That’s not to worry you, it’s just to say testing is pointless x

SunflowerGardens · 05/06/2022 08:03

Your DH is being pretty sensible, the best thing to do is wait. If it helps, I have had 4 miscarriages, 3 of them were around 7 weeks and all had slow progressing pregnancy tests that faded to negative before bleeding started. My 4th miscarriage I had a scan on Monday at 10 weeks showing healthy baby and by Tuesday I was bleeding so early scans can only give you a snapshot of what's going on at that moment. I wouldn't worry too much about ectopic if the bleeding isn't dark and you have no pain. Today you are pregnant, just enjoy it and try not to worry too much about tomorrow.

CornishGem1975 · 05/06/2022 08:04

I'd personally wait a bit longer for a scan just because it might not be reassuring. I had a scan at EPU at 5w1d when my HCG was 14,500 and it didn't really show anything, just a sac. I had another at 7w and the heartbeat was clear. Good luck OP.

BubblinTrouble · 05/06/2022 08:24

Same experience here!! I was worried too but still going strong.

I had a mini period for around 5 days. The a few days later 3 more days of on and off bleeding. I had to wear a pad. Some blood was bright pink and some browner. I went in for a scan via GP and they found a heartbeat. I was advised that as long as it wasn’t full on bleeding where I needed to change sanitary pads regularly (only had to change once a day) it was just implantation bleeding. Ring your GP as they can try and get you booked in for a scan for ease of mind. Hope this helps xx

happypaps · 05/06/2022 08:28

Thanks @BubblinTrouble this is reassuring. When did you have your scan, how many weeks?

OP posts:
BubblinTrouble · 05/06/2022 08:55

I had a scan at 6 weeks (bang on). I had bleeding around 5 weeks and they asked me to wait until I got till 6 weeks and they confirmed everything.

Ahurricaneofjacarandas · 05/06/2022 09:07

If you're continuing to bleed then see your GP. I'm a GP and would for sure organise for you to have a scan once you're along enough. Any pain/excessive bleeding/fever/feeling dizzy or less well then just go to hospital. I do hope everything is fine and there's every chance it is based on what you've said xx

elepants · 05/06/2022 11:24

I had exactly this when I was pregnant with my second whilst still breastfeeding. A lot of bleeding (enough to think I'd had a period), and then on and off throughout the first trimester. Then it settled till I had another few bouts of bleeding around 30-32 weeks. They never found a cause and my baby was born perfectly healthy. I do think you should contact your GP for a referral to EPU - mine took it very seriously and made sure I was seen asap just in case it was ectopic. I also had a placental abruption previously so the bleeding was scary but ultimately everything was fine. Good luck!

elepants · 05/06/2022 11:27

Oh and my first scan at the EPU I was 5 and a bit weeks. There was no heartbeat, but they confirmed it was in the right place which was the main concern at that point. Went back 10 days later and there was a heartbeat.

happypaps · 05/06/2022 11:56

@elepants thanks so much for sharing your experience :-)

Was the blood red for you?

I'm so glad it all worked out!

OP posts:
elepants · 05/06/2022 12:01

Yup, bright red and went on for days. I honestly thought I'd had a period till I tested again. At the EPU they did warn me the first time that there was a chance the bleeding meant an impending miscarriage, but it all worked out and I really hope it will for you too.

Giraffe888 · 05/06/2022 12:02

I had bright red bleeding with both my pregnancies occasionally up until 10 weeks

with my first my doctor did blood tests 48 hours apart as I was too early for a scan. As the bleeding continued I did then have a scan at EPU at 6 weeks and saw the heartbeat

With my second I also had an early scan and saw the heartbeat at just under 6 weeks which I didn’t expect at all

i know how scary it is bleeding in early pregnancy. I’ve got everything crossed for you x
