Is this SPD/ PGP?

Hi ladies,

I am 25 weeks pregnant with baby no.2.

for at least a month now I have had sciatica and lower back pain, mainly in the evenings after work where I am mostly standing all day (teacher).

This week I have started getting pain at the bottom of my bump, kind of just above my pubic bone. It is worse in the evenings and hurts when I stand up or sit down, walk, roll over in bed etc.

Does this sound like it could be SPD/PGP? I didn’t have it in first pregnancy. I am seeing my midwife in a couple of weeks so will mention it then but in the meantime do you have any suggestions to help ease the pain?

Thanks!!

Yes. Rolling over in bed is classic as well as sleeping on side and standing on one leg. Maternity cushions might help in bed. I think you can get some sort of support girdle but not sure if that helps. Reducing activity helps but that doesn't sound easy in your job. Perhaps they could make some adjustments?

Yes, definitely SPD. I had it very severely with DD. I was signed off work at 32 weeks and on crutches/not allowed to drive from that point. I had a serola belt, but it was only mildly beneficial given the severity of my SPD. I've gotten a BBHugme this time (pregnant with #2) but I'm not sure it'll help too much. The exercises given to me by the physio were limited in their use, too.

Thanks. I do have a dream genii but haven’t been using it this time around as my 16mo keeps wanting to get into bed with us at night and it’s too bulky. I think tbh that has really made it worse this week as she’s been in bed with us a few nights in a row because she hasn’t been very well. I also didn’t have a toddler to carry around last pregnancy!

It sounds like what I've been getting, I'm 21 weeks and it's actually easing off back pain wise but it's more my ligaments now especially standing up etc and balancing on one leg! My pillow does help at night and having one in between my legs. My gp prescribed me codeine as it was awful at one point, especially on the evening for some reason !
