Going off sick at 8 weeks

Currently 8 weeks pregnant. Nausea started week 6, progressively worse ever since. Vomiting started about 4-5 days ago. I'm being sick at least 3 times a day until approx 4pm, and feel absolutely horrendous. Just so drained of all energy. Cannot think, cannot move. Just want to sleep all day, but can't because a) the constant sickly feeling and b) I'm working.

I just can't focus. I really feel like I need to just not work for a bit. But I'm really scared work will think I'm taking the p*ss. We're extremely busy at the moment so I don't want to let anyone down but I'm falling behind anyway and the stress of that is getting to me.

Has anyone else gone off work at this stage? Is it normal? First pregnancy so I'm nervous I'm just being a big wimp and should be able to suck it up and get on with it.

@AnnieBelli i'm exactly 8 weeks today and also my first pregnancy. I have consent nausea and vomit twice a day (usually in the morning).

Its horrible so i completely sympathise.

I contacted my GP and was prescribed a course Cyclzine which has helped me massively especially when at work. On bad days it not really effective.

The Receptionist at my work who i work closely with was pregnant last year and had a terrible time with morning sickness she was signed off work from 6 weeks through to 16 weeks. Each week she would get a new doctors line. Because it's a pregnancy's related illness your employer cannot say or do anything about it. I'd say if you feel that crap and it's effecting your work then sign yourself off for 1 week and see how you feel after that. You and your babies health comes first!

Just remember every pregnancy is different and no one can tell you how your feeling.

I’ve been off since 6 weeks with hyperemesis, I’m now 22 weeks! So take as much time off as your body needs.

Im finally going to go back next week but if I feel rubbish again I’ll be getting signed off straight away.

Oh poor you, that sounds horrendous. I'm currently 8 weeks too, and had this on week 6 luckily for me it has calmed down, but I remember how awful those days were and how drained you feel. Have you spoken to your GP/midwife about the possibility of Hyperemesis Gravidarum? They should be able to help you with some anti sickness medication.

Until it settles though it's absolutely fine for you to take some off to rest and you shouldn't feel bad for it 💛xx

I've been off from 7 weeks and went back yesterday at 14+6 due to HG but I've had to take this afternoon off aswell as it ramped up again badly earlier, I feel a burden on work but I know it's best, if you're not well enough don't push yourself 💕

I was off work nearly 5 months with the sickness. Sickness eased a couple of weeks ago. I've been back 3 weeks on phased return.

I guess it depends what your job is too. But I couldn't have done any job up to 16 weeks.
