Pain in upper abdomen

Hi, I'm 31+5 weeks pregnant. I was getting quite intense pain under my left rib so visited the midwife who said it is possibly my ribs expanding as I am getting bigger so was sent home. It is still hurting 4 days later but seems to be in the centre of my stomach going towards my belly button now. It almost feels like internal bruising. Has anybody else experienced this?

How sever is pain? Is there any vomiting? Have your stools or urine changed colour?

It can feel really painful sometimes but then others it's a bit more mild but paracetamol is not easing it at all. No vomiting but I have felt like I need to be. And not that I have noticed no.

Did your midwife take your blood pressure and check your urine for protein? Pain in that area
can be a sign of preeclampsia so they should check that! So do push for that to be checked if they didn't.

Is it worse for you after meals, first thing in the morning or when lying down? If it eases with rennies or gaviscon then it could also be heartburn/ reflux. Omeperazole can be prescribed to help with that and it really works!

@GrowBabyGrow

Yes checked all of that, I had it checked at my community midwife appointment as well as when I went to the hospital for the pain in the same week.

I've not really noticed a pattern for when it hurts more, I will look at monitoring this though. It is really tender when pressure is applied to the area though.
It's not heartburn as I have also had that last week a few times and it is a different feeling, I took gaviscon for this and it helped. Thank you😊

@robyngille123Good that blood pressure etc all fine. I hope that you are able to find some relief from the pain, pregnancy aches and pains can be so miserable!

hi! Did you get to the bottom to what the pain was? I’ve had the exact same thing for about a week now! A almost really tight/burning of the inside of the skin sensation feels like something is pulled so tight inside my stomach it’s going to snap, really really painful. My midwife said it may be muscular and there’s not much I can do, I’m in pain constantly lying down doesn’t relive it and walking makes it 10x worse it’s awful i don’t know how I can do 10 more weeks with it :(

@Rubesxxx

Hi! I didn't, I still feel tenderness in the centre of my stomach above my belly button now however the pain is gone down a lot after resting and not pushing myself too much - I still did housework etc just smaller jobs! I also had thoughts of it being muscular as I felt a bit of a dip as though my stomach muscles were coming apart. My baby is breech too though which could also be contributing to the pains.
I know what you mean by finding it difficult to find relief, I was advised to have a warm bath and paracetamol whenever the pain started but it did nothing to relieve the pain. Once you do manage to find a comfy position (which I know can be really difficult!!) rest a hot water bottle on it for a while, if it's the same type of pain as mine I wouldn't recommend staying in one position for ages is it felt so so painful when trying to move/straighten my body back out.

@Rubesxxx

Depending on how severe the pain is too you could possibly try stretching out using a gym ball, this wasn't manageable for me when the pain was at its worst but as I felt it getting better but still tender I would stretch myself out on the ball for a few minutes at a time

Thank you for replying! Ive taken the paracetamol and tried different positions, I’ll give the ball a try! I’ll try anything at this point haha. I’m only 5ft and they say baby’s measuring “big” so I do think it’s my muscles being strained to their absolute limit. I can’t wait for august! Hope you and baby are ok and the rest of your pregnancy is smooth sailing 🤗
