Yesterday I was 5 weeks 3 days according to my last period but actually think I'm 6 weeks today if I go by ovulation tracking. I went for a wee last night and when I wiped there was watery pink blood. Put a thin panty liner down and when I got home there was a lot of watery brown blood (the image). I also wiped for a while and this was dark brown/dark reddish. I had no cramping or pain. Called 111 and spoke to an out of hours GP who said it was 50/50 on being the start of a miscarriage or not. To rest up and do nothing strenuous and wait out the weekend. Call my Dr Monday morning and see if I can arrange an early scan. If the bleeding progressed to a period he advised it was a miscarriage.

I got a couple more drops about 3 hours after the original bleed and have had nothing overnight. I have barely slept being up every hour to check my pad and having nightmare after nightmare. This morning I feel a bit crampy and periody but then I'm not sure if that's the lack of sleep. I'm gutted. It took us a year to get to this point. Please tell me when things have been OK.

Hi OP, didn’t want to read and run - please give your EPU a ring, they may arrange a scan to double check that everything is ok. There’s going to be lots of people that have had similar and there will likely be both good and bad outcomes, get checked and look after yourself. Sending you Flowers as I know how worrying this happening can be

Workinghardeveryday · 28/05/2022 07:56

I second giving epu a ring.

I was like this in both pregnancies, used to freak out. Was fine!

x

PoleFairy · 28/05/2022 07:59

Are they open at the Weekend? When I rang last night they were closed and I assumed that would be the case for the whole weekend? That's why I rang 111. I can try again though

Hope you’re ok. I had this with my last 2 pregnancies which both turned out fine. With the last one it was quite scary as often it was more than a few drops and I was convinced I’d lose the baby. This carried on until about 12 weeks then stopped. Whilst it can be a sign of something wrong it’s actually surprising how many people have bleeding like to is in healthy pregnancies. Quite a few of my friends have. Definitely get checked but fingers crossed it’s nothing sinister xx

PoleFairy · 28/05/2022 08:02

Thank you @Summerwheredidyougo

I tried the EPU again but definitely says they are only open 9am till 7pm Monday to Friday. That's why I dialled 111

Massive bleed week 7, clots and all, spotted throughout first trimester, now 36 weeks and he's very much alive and kicking! Lots of things cause bleeding, and it's common, if not normal. Call your epu. They probably won't be able to do much as you're very early, but they're defo the people to talk to. Sadly it's largely a waiting game at this stage, but blood doesn't mean it's all over.

nonameslefttochoose · 28/05/2022 08:26

I had very similar at 7 weeks, was lucky enough to get an appointment at EPU 2 days later and thankfully all was fine. I went on to have a healthy pregnancy that resulted in a now 2.5 year old. Is there another EPU at a different hospital you could try? I really hope you get a positive outcome, I know what a worrying time this can be, especially when you have waited such a long time for it xxxxx

gluenotsoup · 28/05/2022 08:32

I bled quite heavily, every shade of blood in 3 pregnancies and it was fine. However, I also bled both more and less through the start of 3 miscarriages, there is really no rules.
It certainly isn’t necessarily the end, particularly if you have no pain and strong symptoms. Hope all works out well for you 💐

PoleFairy · 28/05/2022 08:46

@nonameslefttochoose i looked at the other local hospital but their EPU you need a GP referral to go there which is basically what the out of hours GP said last night. Call my own GP first thing Monday morning and they can refer me to an EPU. The GP said last night that if I bleed very heavily or experience terrible pain then I should go to A&e but if its a manageable period assume its a miscarriage. No pain or more bleeding yet.

@gluenotsoup I've not had any pregnancy symptoms yet at all. I've had strong tests though. The day of my missed period was 2-3 weeks on a clear blue and I've been testing every few days on pound land cheapy strip tests (3 for £1) and they are strong. Yesterday mid morning the lines were as dark as each other

Hi OP, I had bleeding almost exactly as you describe at around 6 weeks with my second pregnancy. I also had cramping so badly I ended up kneeling on the floor as I couldn't sit down. I thought I was definitely having a miscarriage but after that horrible day I had a day or two of spotting, and all was fine. My Dr. said bleeding early on and certainly spotting is far more common than you think. Sending you massive hugs - it's so worrying at the time x

PoleFairy · 03/06/2022 13:06

Incase anyone finds this in future looking for reassurance I had a scan at the EPU this morning and all was OK. Good heartbeat etc. And measuring 5.5 - 6 weeks.

They believe it was my cervix bleeding outside as they could see no sign of a bleed in the womb. Hormonal changes may have caused the bleed on the cervix. When she withdrew the scanning wand that actually had blood on it. I was told to expect it to continue throughout the pregnancy. Particularly after intercourse, excersise, a bowel movement or even coughing and sneezing

Great news:) so happy for you. Wishing you a happy healthy rest of the pregnancy

Libmama · 04/06/2022 17:28

I have this too. I’m 13 weeks now but I’ve had spotting throughout so far. Mainly pink and brown on wiping. I’ve now had 4 scans and baby is absolutely fine. They said the blood is coming from my cervix as I have an ectropion and to expect it more after sex/exercise etc.

Mamastarz · 06/06/2022 20:07

Hi everyone, could I join this post. I'm 7 weeks and have been bleeding bright red (gushes)/ dark brown blood(spotting) from late yesterday evening also have had cramping, have a scan tomorrow, I am just so worried and feeling so upset, as I have been here quite a few times already and it wasn't positive news. Just wanted to hear some positive stories.
Had a scan at just after 5 weeks and seen little bean and a heartbeat.

PoleFairy · 06/06/2022 20:43

@Mamastarz sorry to hear that. Have you ever been diagnosed with a cervical ectropion? After the doctor told me what it was I remembered that after my smear I often had spotting or when they withdrew the swab it would be a bit bloody. It could be something like that

OP posts:
CaptainCarp · 06/06/2022 20:47

@PoleFairy glad your scan went well.
I had a bleed at 6 weeks, fair amount of bright red blood & occasionally spotting for a few weeks after.

I am currently 36 weeks pregnant so🤞 that everything goes smoothly for you.

Mamastarz · 06/06/2022 21:06

@PoleFairy yes i do have that, as the doctor told me about it a few years back after having a smear done. I am so glad to read that your scan went really well too, thats brillants news.

PoleFairy · 07/06/2022 10:45

@Mamastarz it may be your ectropion playing up due to hormones. I hope your scan goes well today

OP posts:
Mamastarz · 07/06/2022 11:31

@PoleFairy , Thankyou. Glad to say all went extremely well, baby's heartbeat good and strong, no bleeding detected anywhere around the baby infact they could find no reasoning for the bleeding, have put me on progesterone as im high risk for recurrent miscarriage. Such a relief, really thought it was another miscarriage.
And again thankyou for your reassuring words last night, they honestly did help me.
How are you doing now.

laurenGame · 07/06/2022 11:42

I bled more than that, a lot more. Several times.
36 weeks today ☺️

Really didn't think it would be a happy ending for me. Hang in there OP. Good luck x

PoleFairy · 07/06/2022 11:51

@Mamastarz yay that's fantastic news! I'm so pleased.

I am all good and thankfully had no further bleeding since the short episode of blood a week and a half ago. I still feel very nervous. Wish I could have an 8 week scan privately but I'm off on holiday at 8 weeks and won't be back until 10 weeks (I'll definitely have a scan then). Just hoping I don't spend all holiday worrying.

OP posts:
Mamastarz · 07/06/2022 13:32

@PoleFairy Maybe a holiday will do you well, help you relax a little bit, although i know myself how hard that can be, try to enjoy you're holiday and just think a scan when you get home, something to look forward too. And im glad all your bleeding has settled down, such a difficult time these early weeks.

Mamastarz · 08/06/2022 10:59

This is all so stressful, I've had another big bleed this morning, and more intense cramping, I just don't understand what's happening. It's going to be a long 4.5 weeks till my 12 weeks scan.

Worriedmamtobe · 16/06/2022 07:45

Sorry to jump on your post. I'm going through something ATM, I'm only 5 weeks today but Sunday just gone me and my partner had sex and it made me start to bleed, not enough to fill a pad or change it every half hour. I could literally have it on most of the day and it wouldn't be covered. Just more when I wipe. I'm not having any pains at all. X

Mamastarz · 16/06/2022 13:28

@Worriedmamtobe how are you today have you contacted you're local EPU. Sometimes having sex this early on can cause the cervix to bleed. X
