Private vs NHS maternity care - did you transfer?

Hi Mums,

I'm curious to know if anyone started their maternity care with the NHS and then ended up transferring to private in London? Are there any cost savings of switching later on (or even just for the delivery) vs. going private throughout your entire pregnancy? I would love to hear your experiences.

I'm starting my second trimester and am registered with the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (NHS) - I have been really pleased so far with the care I have received from the lovely midwife, sonographer and nurses.

That being said I'm curious to know more about the benefits of going private. We have several friends who have had their babies privately in London (at the Kensington and Lindo Wings) and said the experience was wonderful and would thoroughly recommend it.

Secondly, I asked my midwife how accommodating the NHS is of elective c-sections for non-medical reasons. She said everyone is entitled to one. However, I'm not sure if this is really the case? Again, would love to hear anyone's experiences. Just to caveat, I do not know what I would prefer and plan to spend some time researching the risks and recovery, I'm just keen to understand my options.

Thanks for sharing your insights!

Hey,

Just came across your post and wanted to know what you ended up doing. I've just learnt I'm pregnant and C&W is the closest hospital to me, so trying to understand how others have found it / what worked / what didn't.

Thanks!
