Strange "popping" sound at 40wks - any ideas?

Hi - my due date is today and I have experienced the most bizarre sensation of a loud popping almost clicking sound coming from the lower right hand side of my baby bump. It has happened 3 times over the last 30mins. Anyone any ideas as to what it might be?

have your waters broke?

Easywriter · 12/01/2008 22:11

I think i had a similar thing (from your description) when i was in late pregnancy. no one could explain but now she's here dd often clicks her toungue (i don't know how else to describe it) and a very similar strange noise to the one we heard when she was in utero is made.

Easywriter · 12/01/2008 22:13

dd's sound was like the sound of cartilage popping.

choccypig · 12/01/2008 22:13

It could be hiccups.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 12/01/2008 22:13

I used to get something like that. I think it might have been hiccups.

DD was born hiccuping!

susiecutiemincepies · 12/01/2008 22:16

hind waters breaking maybe? sure there is not fluid leaking?

I also used to hear an odd noise with DD, when she hiccuped.

PinkElephant · 12/01/2008 22:17

It's definately not hiccups as baby has hiccups now and its a completely different sensation. It was quite a loud cracking/clicking noise - its the only way to describe it. No my waters haven't broken as yet. Does that help at all?

My friend had this when she was heavily pregnant with her ds,it was his joints clicking.
Nothing wrong btw just noisy joints as i have too.

madmouse · 12/01/2008 22:29

My baby produces this clicking sound whenever he is boisterous (37 1/4 weeks). It certainly is not hiccups!! (Get plenty of those too) I think he probably creates some tension in the membranes or the wall of the uterus. He has been doing it for weeks and seems a very happy bunny in there. I am curious what it is though.

PinkElephant · 12/01/2008 22:31

Ahh it must be when baby is moving then, he is being particularly wriggly and really kicking when this noise happens.

Look at this page
Still doesn't explain exactly what it is but thought you might like to read it, not unheard of aparently. (love this website btw, really extensive and unbiased info about everything you want to know, great for b/f advice and birth preparation in particular)

thats weird coz the other night i heard a loud pop too, when i was in bed and baby had hiccups at the time. I was lying there waiting for a trickle as my waters went the first time round so im familiar with the sound. anyway the trickle didnt come, so i asumed id imagined it , lol. surley it cant be the baby with major hiccups, could it?

madmouse · 14/01/2008 17:24

Thanks ScaryHairyCat that is exactly what my baby has. I have not been worried about it, I had far too many other things to worry about!!

PinkElephant · 18/01/2008 19:06

Thank you scaryhairycat I'd read this and it had put my mind at rest. The clicking has continued all this week. All I can think of is that the baby is getting too big and there's just not as much room as before.

Could it be a dolphin in there?

scaryhairycat · 18/01/2008 22:44

lol, or a bat?

babylove21 · 19/01/2008 13:15
