Ectopic / can it be detected on a abdominal u/s at 7 2/2weeks ?

I had an early scan yesterday for spotting reasons. Sonographer found no reason for bleeding but baby was on right side of stomach. When she was scanning me on that side the pain was horrid. I wanted to shout out in pain… I did tell her this but she said may be because I have a full bladder. When she scanned my other side it was completely painless. It was very rushed as they were very busy (I was waiting an hour for my ultrasound past my appointment time)

I am higher risk for ectopic but stupidly didn’t say this when I was in there as it was all done so quickly (stupid I know!) I’m now worried this could have been missed ? I have looked on google and it says it usually has to be vaginal u/s to detect ectopic. I have a stitch kind of pain on that side today and I’m freaking out

is it possible she would have detected it through my stomach?

If the sonographer could see baby in the right place, I'm sure it can't be ectopic. There is a very, very rare risk that there could be a baby in your tube too, but I was told it is extremely rare by a sonographer.

My ectopic was detected at 7 weeks by a transvaginal ultra sound and there was nothing in my uterus but something was on my right ovary. I'm sure they will have checked your ovaries. Usually an ectopic is classed as a pregnancy of unknown location before they can detect where it is, if at all. I'd trust your sonographer. It always hurts me when they look at my left ovary and makes me shout out, but that is with an internal exam.

@Sammy843
I get that is norm from the side I ovulation from so the ovary the progesterone is being produced from.

Yes, can be seen on abdominal scan from very early on, it shows as an empty space. Mine was seen at 5 weeks and I am very fat! I get extra scans due to APS so my first is done within a week or so of positive test, trans abdominal as at that point they are just checking it’s in the right place.

Thanks ladies. These comments have made me feel slightly better but I booked a private scan for tomorrow in a panic after writing this.

I know they are rare but im concerned as im very high risk due to bad scarring on both my tubes after having PID. I looked on the NHS website and it states it has to be done transvaginally so I got in a panic. This stitch pain is quite bad and I feel very bruised when I touch that side with slight pressure.

Hope you're as ok as can be @Sammy843

Did they see baby measuring as expected and a heartbeat?

I had pain the last time I was pregnant (ended in a miscarriage) when I had an ultrasound but it was because I had a cyst on one of my ovaries that just went away on it’s own x
if it was ectopic she would have picked it up in that ultrasound straight away they can tell the difference between your uterus and other parts x
