Niggles/v.light pain near ovaries early pregnancy

Hi all,

I am in v.early pregnancy (just under 4 weeks). I recently had an ectopic pregnancy and am at risk of another. I’ve got an appointment at my local EPU on Monday.

My main concern is that for a few days I’ve been experience a niggly sensation/very very light pain low down on the left hand sound, in the general area of my ovaries. The sensation comes and goes and is quite noticeable, but it doesn’t really hurt as such. It feels a bit like a stitch (but not quite).

Of course I’m worried it’s another ectopic. But does anyone have any experience of this they could share?

Thank you

Sorry about your previous loss. Cramping and strange sensations are really normal in early pregnancy. Fingers crossed for the rest of your pregnancy.

I've had this the whole way through. I'm currently 19 weeks.
I thought it might be an ovarian cyst because it felt like bad ovulation pain and can be quite painful at times but GP and midwife thinks its muscular pain.

Thanks for your reply.

Do you think it’s normal even when it’s really specifically on one side?

Ive also had general AF-type cramps in the middle but no so worried about those.

Thank you so much for your reply.

The EPU also mentioned it could be a cyst. It doesn’t really hurt though, just a ‘sensation’ - hard to explain!

I had similar to this when I was about 4 weeks pregnant. Sometimes felt like a pulling/ stretching. I’m 17 weeks now and baby girl is healthy.

Thank you so much for your reply (and congrats) 😊

Ive actually got a scan today which the EPU arranged. It’s so early I don’t think they’ll see anything.

The pains have moved ever so slightly so that it’s now lower down in my pelvis but still slightly to the left, a bit more of a sharp muscular pain now. Still only comes and goes and isn’t there constantly,

I’m just really hoping with every inch of me that it’s normal and is just about things getting prepared down there. Time will tell!

One sided pain in early pregnancy should be investigated so it's great that you're having a scan today. It might be a little too early to see anything so you may be asked to return in 10 days.

The pain you feel could be from the corpus luteum - this is a small cyst on your ovary left over from ovulation. It produces the hormone progesterone which supports the pregnancy until the placenta takes over around week 9.

All the best for today and please report back after your scan.

OP how did the appointment go??

WednesdayStar4 · 23/05/2022 16:19

Suspected ovarian ectopic. Staying in hospital overnight because if it is what they suspect I’ll need emergency surgery. It’s a long story but it’s a complicated picture and they can’t quite make sense of it. I don’t have any hope for it being viable.

I'm really sorry to read this @WednesdayStar4. Thank goodness you got seen when you did. I hope you get some clarity this morning and if the outcome isn't good, please push for a referral for further investigations. You have been through so much already x
