Hi all this is my first post so I hope it’s in the right place 😂 I’m a first time Mum and I am booked in for my first appointment with the midwife next week at Barnsley Hospital. I was wondering if any of you who have given birth at BH recently could share your opinions/experiences/reviews of the hospital as I have heard quite mixed experiences. Thanks in advance.

My bestfriend has had two of her babies at Barnsley, her last being in September!

She couldn’t praise them enough x

My friend has had a baby at Barnsley, it's supposed to be a shit hospital but her baby is happy and healthy.

Hi! I'm from Barnsley and currently pregnant with my second and everything seems fine upto now. My daughter was born 6 years ago now at barnsley hospital and I couldn't fault them. They were absolutely amazing. My sister had her baby last year too in the middle of lockdown and she said they were brilliant too.

I had pre-eclampsia and was in the hospital for 7 weeks, in NICU they were amazing. A new NICU has been added in the last couple of years I think. I never got to use the birthing pools because I had an emergency C-section, but they were as good as they could be in the circumstances for the LO. My care was crap though! I made a complaint in the end. The medication round was a shambles, with my BP all over the place because they couldn't give me the meds as my chart was at the pharmacy or some such nonsense. I ended up keeping my own records because the paperless system they were using was bollocks. Literally noting BP and meds on tissues because tablets (IT kind) weren't available. I had a cold sore and was trying to get meds to avoid passing it to prem baby and the Dr had no clue what I was on about, I got quite arsey about that.

So yeah, I'd say the facilities are good, the staff are hit and miss; most were amazing, a notable couple were terrible, and the systems were shite. Be prepared to stand up for yourself!

I live a few streets away from BH. Gave birth there in 2015 and again last year. I know lots of midwives who work there too. Everyone was so lovely. Brilliant experience in the birthing suite both times, modern rooms with nice relaxed lighting and attached bathrooms. The post natal ward is a bit rough mind! The beds are close together and it's very 1960s and SO hot, the temperature is ridiculous. But, it was fine for 24 hours.

Not what you asked, but I didn't rate Jessops for my two pregnancies (just in case that's an alternative to Barnsley for you and you're having to decide between the two!).

Thank you everybody for your messages it’s put my mind at ease a little to hear things are generally positive and the midwives are good. I live between Barnsley and Doncaster so my gp said those are my two options.
