High risk for downs now for NIPT testing

Hi guys - today I got a high risk result from my combined screening for downs. My odds came back 1 in 78. They have asked for me to go do the NIPT tomorrow morning for a more accurate answer. Im only 26 and have had one pregnancy that ended in miscarriage in the past so im beyond worried but trying to be positive. Is there anyone who has been in a similar situation with a positive ending??? I need reassurance!! 😩🤞

I was 32 when pregnant. I had a 1 in 62 chance from my quad test. Decided not to do any further testing and baby was born with no Down syndrome or other health conditions. I did ask the sonographer to check for other indicators like heart defects during the 20week scan though. If there had have been some sign at that point, I think I would have done further testing just to be prepared. The midwives are great at talking everything through with you though and will always signpost you to further support whilst you prepare for these test results. Good luck & congratulations x

I could have wrote this exact post a few months ago - also 26, pregnant following a miscarriage & had a similar result from combined screening. We had our NIPT test done - it wasn’t painful but I found it quite upsetting getting to the hospital and being taken to a private waiting area away from the other mums. Our results came back within a week (our test was December 23rd as well so lots of bank holidays!) - low risk.

I thought that I would spend the rest of pregnancy worrying still but really haven’t. We paid to have a scan at 16 weeks to find out baby’s gender and that really helped us calm down and put the stress behind us. After the 20 week scan we were also reassured everything was ok.

Everything since has been completely normal - no extra scans or medication etc. Baby due at the end of June.

Hope everything goes ok for you xxx

Hi OP, I had 1/26 chance back in January and I did the NIPT.

mine came back all low risk and I had an extra heart check at 16 and 22 weeks and everything has looked fine since.

it is a worrying time but it is more likely than your baby will be totally fine xx

We were given the odds of 1 in 16 that our dd would have Down's syndrome. She was a much longed for ivf baby and so we didn't have any further testing, beyond the usual scans. After the first few days of crying and stressing, we actually calmed down and decided that no matter what happened, we would love her completely.

What helped us enormously was to convert the odds to percentage chance, so a 1 in 16 (which sounds almost definite) was actually a 94% chance of no Down's syndrome. Which sounds much less likely.

Our dd does not have Down's syndrome.

Hope that your results are fine xx

I'm joining this thread as I didn't have any testing at all but a scan at 34 weeks has shown a duodenal atresia(blockage in stomach) and baby is measuring small so we have been told to prepare for DS. I will be induced in 2 weeks so it's such an anxious time. Wish you luck and hoping for good outcomes for us all x

Rrrunrunrunrunrun · 19/05/2022 20:39

I had a 1:30 risk of downs. I was 30 at the time. Did the nipt which came back low risk. DS is 2 and is perfectly healthy.

NamechangeFML · 19/05/2022 20:40

I was 1/60 and had the harmony bloods.
I was demented waiting for the results
it came back 1/100000 odd, so we decided against further testing
(although a friend did choose to do the amniocentesis )

baby is perfect.

Good luck to all the other mums-to-be here! I don’t know if it will help, but a little mantra I kept telling myself through the pregnancy was “an extra chromosome means extra love” - it really helped me out. X

Thank you so much everyone for your replies. Feeling much more positive this morning. It's not the downs that bothers me, we will adapt if that is the case. I'm just praying that the baby is happy and healthy. So glad all of your stories turned out the way they have for you. Hopefully todays NIPT will give me the same result

1/9 here - NIPT came back low risk. DD doesn't have Downs Syndrome.

Good luck Flowers

@Sausagerollfiend thank you so much for the well wishes. Our baby will be loved no matter what the outcome I am more worried about my tiny newborn having to have stomach surgery etc. 16 days to go 💓 xx
