15 weeks pregnant - thrush?

Hey guys, I’m 15 weeks pregnant today and since the last 2 days I’ve had the WORST itching down there. The whole area feels hot too and swollen and it’s so bad that last night I was almost in tears. I haven’t been able to sleep properly because of how bad the itching is, it’s so so so bad. I’ve googled it and it seems to be thrush but it’s SO bad. I don’t know what to do. The doctor isn’t giving me an appointment since Friday and my midwife is useless and doesn’t answer.

I’ve been trying to give air to the whole area as much as I can and I’m wearing loose trousers with cotton underwear. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this bad before, this sucks so bad. I swear it’s one thing after another in this pregnancy. My first trimester went so smoothly but ever since my second trimester started it’s one problem after another. Someone suggested that I use natural yoghurt down there too which I did a few times, it helped but only because it felt cool. It helped a little but not much and I don’t know what to do now. My friend told me to use Canesten pessaries and cream but I can’t get an appointment until Friday and I can’t wait that long at all. Is it possible to buy this over the counter, because I need it today I’m going mad. Any advice anyone? Anything at all I’m willing to try that’s safe in pregnancy. I’m almost in tears 😭

Hi, I feel for you. I was a constant thrush sufferer during pregnancy. It is safe to use the pessary and cream when pregnant. You can buy it over the counter, but if you're visibly pregnant they won't sell it to you. You should insert the pessary with your fingers not the applicator. You may need a course though to get rid of it, so still speak with your GP rather than pay for it. Hope it gets better for you.

You can definitely get canesten cream + pessaries over the counter, and my Dr said they were safe to use. The Dr would usually prescribe an oral antifungal but they actually don't prescribe that during pregnancy so very likely your Dr will just send you to the pharmacy for a pessary.

Yes get canesten over the counter, just don’t tell them you’re pregnant. It is safe to use - I was prescribed it 7 times in pregnancy snd consultant confirmed repeated use was perfectly safe.

Does this sound like thrush or a UTI? I also need to pee more often, like every 2 hours or so. Even before pregnancy I used to pee a lot but it’s increased now. And sometimes when I go, not much comes out. TMI sorry.

Sounds more like a UTI, does it burn too? I also had this during pregnancy (such a glamorous time!) If you can't wait until a gp can see you, can you call 111 and get an out of hours appointment, I did this once and they prescribed antibiotics.

It doesn’t burn at all when I pee, the discomfort is mainly on the outside I’m so itchy all over my vulva, everything seems to be swollen too and it’s so bad. I applied canestan cream about two hours ago for thrush, it seems to be helping a bit as the itching has lessened quite a bit after applying once. I really hope it’s not a UTI but I will surely get tested for it tomorrow.. my gp surgery said I can call tomorrow morning for an urgent appointment and I’ll get one for tomorrow. I hope it’s thrush and not a UTI

Now I’m thinking that idk if I have to pee more often than necessary? Because even normally I do need to pee after every 2 hours or so. I have no idea but I will go to the doctor tomorrow
