Is it thrush? Or what?!

Gross topic I know so apologies in advance! I'm the last few days I've had swelling on my perineum, I would describe them as almost swollen lines if that makes sense? Not round lumps. They are sore and really getting me down. I told the midwife about this on Monday at my 36 week appointment and she didn't examine me, just said that's thrush when I mentioned it was a bit itchy (which it is but only ever so slightly, I would describe it more as sensitive).

I know she is a professional and I've never had haemorrhoids or thrush ever before so I'm clueless but I just don't seem to have any of the symptoms of thrush?

Has anyone else had similar to this?

Try some Canesten cream on the affected area. Or just get the pessary and the cream and treat everything just in case!

She prescribed the pessaries and cream, used the pessary last night and have used the cream today and if anything it feels worse?

Ah you didn't mention you'd already been prescribed something.
Sorry, not sure what it could be 😕

Sorry! Should have been clearer.

For around six months post birth I had a raging itchy vulva, red, swollen and sore. Doctor gave me canesten but I wasn't convinced it was thrush as no thrush symptoms other than itching. I think it was just really dry due to change in hormones. It suddenly went away but I did have it for around six months.

So strange! I'm in a total pickle now because I don't know whether to continue to use the canestan even though my gut tells me it isn't thrush?

It is only on the perineum, so surely cannot be thrush?!

We're already past TMI here 😅so could it be that you're constipated or that there's a lot of pressure down there now (you're 36 weeks?) and the lines are small fissures? Something like that would be very sore, slightly itchy and might swell a bit.

You could try sitz baths with Epsom salts to soothe the area, or get some mini gel cooling packs for the area. Or make your own "padsicles" with sanitary towels that you soak in liquid and then freeze. If you go that last route do Google it....it's recommended for postpartum and they advise using certain oils, witch hazel etc.

😂 I'm so sorry. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Thanks for your advice!
