Hi all. I have been experiencing shortness of breathe a couple of times now. This morning it was difficult and took me about 20 mins to get back to normal breathing rate. I only got up to print and starting to feel breathless, then I struggled to breathe properly so sat down again. I don't think this is normal! I am quite fit, I am not overweight and don't suffer from asthma or anxiety. I was having a calm morning and only got up to print. I know I should call the doctor and I will but it's very difficult to get an appt so wondered if anyone had tips for this or had suffered this before? Thanks!

Could you call your local early pregnancy unit for advice?

Thank you, yes this is what I did and they said it's not normal and I should get a doctor appt. So I was just seeing if anyone knew anything until I could see the doctor!

I've heard the increase in progesterone in early pregnancy can cause shortness of breath.

Or anaemia.

I’m very active and fit, but for some reason in pregnancy, right from the start the smallest exercise leaves me breathless, in fact it’s one of my earliest symptoms of being pregnant. I used to dread having to walk up the stairs to my office as I’d be huffing and puffing at the top! A sure giveaway I was pregnant before I told anyone!!

This happened to me through all three of my pregnancies, along low blood pressure, which got progressively worse up to about 22 weeks, and then moderately better. So: it’s not necessarily abnormal, but if the early pregnancy unit is telling you to get seen… got get seen! :-)

Short of breath was my pregnancy symptom in both pregnancies, even before I saw my BFP. I read that is due to the increase in progesterone levels.

This is my second pregnancy and this time around I was so short of breath in the first tri before I even knew! I would be going home - a route less strenuous than my previous cycle out of the city centre and just be huffing and puffing so much!
