Brown bleeding third trimester

Hello all,

I am a first time mum in my third trimester. Last week I had constant, but not heavy, brown bleeding with very, very slight red tinges. I was in and out of hospital for checkups and was off work - no evidence of preterm labour, infections, or irritation. It all cleared up on the Friday 7days later), but after more activity on the weekend it came back Sunday afternoon. After total rest, it has now gone again over night.

I am making this thread to ask for people's experiences with this? I had a low lying placenta at my 20 week scan, and I won't know if it has moved until my next scan. Does this tend to happen with low lying placenta? I also get period like cramps (not that painful, just noticeable) along with them, but they go when bleeding goes.

I have absolutely no idea how cautious I should be with this regards work. My job is very full on, relentless, with no opportunity to take breaks or rest when I need to. It initially started after a hard, but usual, work day. However on the other hand getting signed off based on a 'just in case' feels wrong (midwife said sign off until scan to be safe). For all I know my placenta might have moved already!

Tldr; brown bleeding on and off with activity, third trimester, possible low lying placenta (could have moved by now), looking for people's experiences with this.

Sorry OP I can't offer advice or experience, but I'm shocked that you were in the hospital getting things checked out and they didn't even scan you....with bleeding?! 😱what on earth?!

They said that as long as it stayed brown and not heavy they weren't hugely concerned. I did have three examinations and a swab! I have my scan booked in in two weeks that was scheduled after finding out I had low lying at 20 weeks, so I guess they think since the scan is so close I could wait?

It's why I am so confused about how serious it is / could be. As long as baby was fine (defo was and is kicking away) and I had no constant pains they were more relaxed and I had to monitor it myself at home, but at the same time they have warned me of it possibly being related to placenta and could get worse. I am left totally confused about how serious I should take it!
