whether its eating/ drinking or some form of activity.

It's weird the things you miss when you know you can't have them! I have missed runny eggs, and having a glass of wine when I fancied one.Oh and being able to lie on my tummy to sleep! Can't wait to be able to do that again.

Didn't give up any food whilst pg! Just ate what I liked!

I missed laying on my tummy in bed, being able to get out of the bath on my own and sleeping in my own bed (was on the sofa for last few weeks of pg!)

  1. Feeling comfortable
  2. Cold remedies
  3. People greeting me with something other than a comment on what they think I look like.
ruty · 17/01/2008 14:33

Cider. A nice cold half pint. Yearning for it.

Sunshinemummy · 17/01/2008 14:47

Just pregnant again so about to go through it all but last time I missed runny and blue cheese, pate, oysters, sushi, wine. DP was great - just before I gave birth he went to France and brought back loads of cheese and pate for me and the day after I got out of hospital he took me out for oysters. I hope he remembers that for this time.

As someone said earlier, providing there are no allergies in your family, you are allowed to have peanuts and in fact, some doctors enourage it as it's believed that cutting out peanuts may be responsible for the rise in peanut allergies.

betterhalf · 17/01/2008 14:49

I would have killed for a cold glass of cider during the Summer, and a nice glass of red wine by the fire in the winter. Oh well, only a week to go ( hopefully!)

scaryhairycat · 17/01/2008 14:54

Pate on hot buttered toast.

Probably the only food I have not risked eating during pregnancy!
(11 days left and counting.)

missvicki · 17/01/2008 15:34

Tut, i think this not being able to eat peanuts thing is hogwash!!!!!!

Chirst if you don't expose your kids to allengens then they're more likely to be susceptable as they wouldn't have a defense.

Obviously i'm stuffing peanuts down my neck 24/7 but i'm not going out of my way to avoid them. I think i'm a prime example of a mother following the rules too strictly my mum was super clean with me, everything was steralised that went anywhere near me but by the time my sister came along she didn't have the time and i'm the one with all the allergies, like hayfever, and skin ittirations. The immune system learns to defend us by being exposed!!

ruty · 17/01/2008 15:52

oh and brie.

ruty · 17/01/2008 15:53

[yeah but missvicki it can work the other way too. I was brought up in a house full of cats, dogs, rabbits, dust, you name it, and me and my brother have bad allergies.]

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 17/01/2008 16:28

For all you cider ladies - waitrose do a fab low alcohol cider (0.5 units per bottle = pint roughly) and Tesco's is 0.3 units for the same volume .

Naetha · 17/01/2008 22:59

The stuff I missed doing when I was pregnant was lying on my back, and lying on my front. Unfortunately (DS 2 weeks old) I can't lie on my back because it really makes my sciatica hurt, and I can't lie on my front because of my enormous engorged boobs! Ah well, I've got used to lying on my side now!

As for the eating stuff...I was naughty because I still ate most of that stuff, I just kept it to a minimum (i.e. within common sense levels) with things like brie, alcohol etc. I did eat peanuts, because I accidentally ate a load without realising it, and having researched it, figured that the risk was minimal and the advice was conflicting anyway. Also eaten peanuts while BFing and no troubles so far.

What I'm missing at the moment is chilli, as DS throws up if I've been eating chilli, so no curries or spicy stir-fries for me!

ArchiesMama · 17/01/2008 23:14

I missed Brie and Rare steak and runny eggs! Bubs came early so we had to stay in hospital ages and i escaped to the supermarket and thought hmmm wat couldnt i eat....bought a pack of brie and ate the whole lot back in my bed...sure beats hospital food!

casbie · 18/01/2008 09:18

moules marinere - had a big bowl days after giving birtha dn mil made me one of her special chocolate mousses - yummy!

Msita · 18/01/2008 10:12

When I first read about all the food restrictions here, I couldn't believe it but decided I should stick to it. Then I went home to France at Christmas and all my friends who recently had babies made me feel a lot less guilty. They had oysters, rare meat (if you want to kill all the germs, freeze it first), foie gras etc.... As someone said earlier in the thread, these are staple food in the French diet and I couldn't live withouth them (not that I eat them every day though).

I think the key thing is to be sensible and more careful than usual about where the food comes from. But if you are buying meat from a good butcher, there is no reason why you can't eat it in reasonable quantities. And the fish used for sushi is often frozen beforehand, so it kills all the germs. I had sushi for the first time since the beginning of my pregnancy last week, and it was heaven!!!

davinaroma · 18/01/2008 10:35

Goats cheese, peanut butter, white wine, champagne and cocktails....quite a long list actually! Ah well, only six weeks to go!!

davinaroma · 18/01/2008 10:36

Oh...and brie!!

Cara1 · 18/01/2008 11:22

Hm - I miss high heels, skinny jeans, sushi, stinky cheese, gin and tonic and PEANUT BUTTER!

At 34 weeks I'm now feeling quite slow and uncomfortable, so just missing my old body a bit.

I have allowed myself the odd glass of champagne here and there - Christmas would have been extra tough otherwise!

mistyamica · 18/01/2008 11:37

I am missing my prawns...but I still have runny egg sarnies! I cook them myself throwing hot oil over the top of the yolk.

It was sooooo hard over new years and christmas!! There I was the designated driver whilst everyone else got bladdered.

I can't wait to go out and not have to worry about what I can't drink!!

I tried the non alcoholic becks and it smelt horrible so i didn't drink that. I did have a sneaky Baileys on new years eve tho. Hey, I deserved it! But I have been very good otherwise...no nuts, no prawns, no soft cheeses (I love cheese!)

CountTo10 · 18/01/2008 11:47

I've missed:-

  • sitting ds on my lap properly
  • eat something without getting heartburn
  • leting my hair down on a night out, dancing and drinking a few glasses of vino
  • high heels
  • wearing what I like instead of what fits
  • playing football and stuff with ds
  • sleeping on my front
  • attractive underwear
  • being able to put on socks and shoes without giving myself a small hernia

Soooooo any indication that maybe I can't wait to be released from pending pregancy

WonderfulWelshGirl · 18/01/2008 12:50

I personally don't see the harm in having a little bit of what you fancy! I'm definitely more relaxed with pregnancy no2 than I was the first time round. I had a little bit of pate and brie over Christmas, amongst other things. Had a growth scan this week and baby weighs in at 5lb 10oz at 32 weeks, so I must be doing something right!!

finallypregnant · 18/01/2008 18:22

Prawn cocktail, pate on toast, a large glass of cold white wine and a medium steak! The same as everyone else!

imoscarsmum · 18/01/2008 19:27

To add my twopennethworth:
I was told that Sushi is fine, as long as you're used to eating it and stick to reputable brands (Waitrose, Yo Sushi).

Prawns are fine as long as they're properly cooked. DP is a chef and also has a DD from previous, so I'm lucky that he'll cook my prawns well (he's also giving up alcohol with me - this one's a keeper!), although I confess to having a small (1 unit) glass of wine once a week - just can't give it up with my friday night tea.

And LadyofWaffle - going to the gym is fine. I've been a member since July 06, and am still going twice a week. I've decreased intensity but still walk uphill and cross train, plus some weights. Key is low impact and low weights. It's recommended to keep your strength up. I checked with doc and he said fine. You're right about sauna etc.

I'm missing coffee and runny cheeses the most. Redbush tea is really nice too with milk and is caffeine free.
