whether its eating/ drinking or some form of activity.

It's weird the things you miss when you know you can't have them! I have missed runny eggs, and having a glass of wine when I fancied one.Oh and being able to lie on my tummy to sleep! Can't wait to be able to do that again.

Umlellala · 11/01/2008 21:45

i eat runny eggs and peanuts anyway (don't have that much and think the risk is minimal)

Franny, medised?! does it work on adults? mind you, the only time i can't sleep is now. when i am pregnant.

whomovedmychocolate · 11/01/2008 21:47

I was reading on a govt website you should avoid prepared sandwiches too - so I can understand avoiding British Rail sandwiches (for reasons of taste as well as hygiene) but honestly if you go to somewhere like Pret a Manger, their kitchens are a darn sight more hygienic than mine and the eggs in mayo are pasteurised and from hens innoculated against salmonella too. What risk, other than bird flu is there in a sodding sandwich.

Bloody namby pamby nanny stateism if you ask me

FrannyandZooey · 11/01/2008 21:47

yes medised is fabulous

dp is just upstairs to take some so he can get a good night's sleep despite nasty cold, the lucky dog

whomovedmychocolate · 11/01/2008 21:48

Really Franny - how much do you have to take (thinking of dosing up the old woman (MiL) and DH and then I can hit them when they tell me how terribly they slept.

FrannyandZooey · 11/01/2008 21:50

I just take a child's dose, it is ruddy strong

your mouth goes numb within about a minute (mind you I am quite sensitive to stuff like that)

MerlinsBeard · 11/01/2008 21:51

Actually, the thing i miss the most is being able to get up out of the chair without groaning

lazycat · 11/01/2008 21:59

gin martini

sometimes cigarettes, but pregnancy and bf made me give them up and i haven't smoked for a year - the best i've ever done! hoping i don't start again...

spugs · 12/01/2008 09:12

i have been eating prawns and dippy eggs and dont like pate so not missing out on that.

ive missed wine (alot) and my normal appitite and metabolism (put 2 stone on already )

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 12/01/2008 09:36

Oh how I missed Stilton. Stilton and apple sandwiches are a fav of mine, although I was known to fall off the wagon every now and then

Not being able to sleep on my stomach for the last 10 weeks or so - torture!

Minkus · 12/01/2008 09:38

Not having heartburn or indigestion 24/7

Getting a good nights sleep

Being able to eat without being sick

Agree about the steak - normally have it blue arllgelarrrrl (that's the homer simpson drool noise by the way)

Having energy

Can you tell I've just come out of a horrific 1st trimester?

macaco · 12/01/2008 09:56

You can eat peanuts as long as there isn't history of peanut allergy. Prawns are fine if from a reputable source. I've been missing jamon serrano (like parma ham) and when I had a cold being able to just go to the pharmacy and get something over the counter, pharmacists seem terrified of giving a pregnant woman anything! Also miss not having constantly sore nips.

Mumblesmummy · 12/01/2008 10:50

I miss lying on my tummy the most.
Then being able to go to the pub to socialise with friends (they're all so crowded round here I don't want to get bumped by some drunken nugget). I missed having a drink at xmas, tho it's never bothered me before!

I ate a prawn in mixed meat curry on new years eve and it was totally OFF. I was sick a lot at the time coz it had repulsed me, but I didn't get poisoned off it. I still have the odd prawn made at home though

I miss being able to diet and watch my jiggly bits go none jiggly.

N I miss not being totally vulnerable.

However, pregnancy has it's upsides such as a baby, buying baby clothes, always being given a seat, being looked after by DP all the time, eating whatever I like... umm... and loads more!! I'd take being pregnant over not being pregnant!!

mummylittle · 12/01/2008 11:10

I miss rare steak and runny eggs!! Being able to breathe properly after walking up the stairs!! I also miss being able to see down below - it must look a awful!! (sorry if that was too much info!!)x

trish12 · 12/01/2008 11:23

oh, now theres a question!! most ov of ive missed, runny eggs, coleslaw, not being able to paint my toes and shaving my bikini line is an absolute nightmare!!! those nurses are probably gonna have a good laugh anyhow, lol

piggyp · 12/01/2008 11:34

What a good thread! I'm missing sleeping on my tummy, mooing steak and roquefort cheese. Oh and hot toddy to help my sniffles!
Am enjoying feeling baby wriggle, choosing baby things, knitting, eating masses of other stuff (esp hot chocolate and cake), people being more considerate than normal and the thought of only 3 more weeks work!

gr1973 · 12/01/2008 11:46

I'm definitely missing pate. I'm not a massive fan of runny eggs, but now I know I cant have one I want one! I've had peanuts, snickers etc.

I always sleep on my left side but now that I know I shouldn't I keep trying to sleep on my tummy. Hopefully once the bump gets bigger that wont seem so appealing.

I also gave up smoking before I got pg but I do miss the whole glass of wine and cigarette combo.

makingnosense · 12/01/2008 11:58

Oh and sorry if TMI, but I miss having sex with hubby on top . Am huge now so absolutely no chance of that. Other ways were ok for a while but now I would love to be able to do it the boring ordinary way!

Why can't I have a rare steak? Does this include roast beef? I'm 22 weeks and have had all the way through so far but this is the first I've heard of it. Eh?

MuffinMclay · 12/01/2008 15:46

Being able to walk at a normal speed, and taking the dog for long walks.

Being able to sit up in bed to read - can't do it comfortably at all.

Pate and red wine

scaryhairycat · 12/01/2008 16:44

Me too MNS! - getting very frustrated now!!!

trish12 · 12/01/2008 22:50

i think not bieng able to have rare steak might have something to do with the fact that its undercooked, the risk of food poisioning etc, its the same reason we cant have runny eggs or certain cheeses, coz they contain certain ingrediants that can cause listeria and samonella (dont think i spelt that right) but u get my drift

AvonBarksdale · 13/01/2008 19:24

I am 34 weeks now and really missing all my lovely clothes and shoes that I haven't been able to wear for months!!! I'm also very excited about wearing nice underwear again (something lacy and underwired - oh the luxury!). I've been happily eating runny eggs because I think the risk of salmonella poisoning is really low but am really looking forward to a nice big bag of salted peanuts and a very cold glass(bottle) of sauvignon blanc. Oh and being able to lie on my back.

JaneHH · 13/01/2008 20:36

Someone earlier mentioned that peanut butter is considered goooooood pregnancy food in the US. Here in Holland they seem to be a bit more lenient on various things too (hadn't heard about the peanut thing until I got addicted to mumsnet a week or two ago) Was wondering, are there any other mumsnetters out there in foreign climes who can advise us all where to move house to? So can we all pig out on all the cheese, steak and GIN we want when we want to?

hollygiz1 · 13/01/2008 21:09

whats runny cheese, people say miss cheese thought you could eat cheese

ayrshirelolo · 13/01/2008 23:35

Dh under the same instructions as last time... as soon as i'm home from hospital i want Brie, Pate, lots and lots and lots of wine (not fussy what kind ), some extremely strong espresso coffee with brandy in it, you get the drift!!!! Also want to sleep on my tummy and i know what you mean about the "dh on top" thing .... just for a change!!
