Hi,

Does anyone have experience of wearing breast shells during pregnancy to help prepare flat/partially inverted nipples for breast feeding? What were your experiences (did it help?) and what products did you try?

Thanks in advance :)

I found the best thing was latch assist bu Lansinoh once baby arrived. Also check out Emma Pickett’s blog post (Google her name and flat nipples). You may find you don’t have a problem once baby is here but it’s very possible to feed with flat nipples. I’ve done it to 2 years twice

I had extremely flat nipples and small. Tried breast shells, suction devices and nipple assist by lansinoh.

In reality, the best thing was breastfeeding. Extremely painful for the first 4 weeks as she was feeding every 45 mins and 'breaking' the nipple adhesions that made my nipples flat. However, I now have permanently non flat nipples, it's amazing! I still bf her now at 20months. I imagine (hope) it'll make it easier second time round too.

Make sure you get all the other bits and bobs like nipple cream (I liked weleda), cold breast compresses etc.

@SucculentLeopard @GalactatingGoddess Thanks for sharing your experiences. It just great to hear from others who have managed to bf to give me some confidence its doable if challenging.
