Has anyone ever had first positive test, then negative test but still pregnant?

Dear all

I had 5 pregnancy tests when I was 4 weeks and all were positive.

Today I thought of using a remaining pregnancy test I had and it showed negative. I am 6 weeks pregnant. I am so worried that I may have miscarriaged. Did anyone ever have a similar experience but ended up still being pregnant?

I am having my early pregnancy scan on Tuesday.

I hope everything is still ok...

Hi @NV42 so I guess there are 3 possibilities:

  1. The last test was faulty
  2. The Hook Effect whereby there's so much HCG that the test flips out and shows negative
  3. You have unfortunately had a MMC

I'm glad you have a scan on Tuesday, hopefully you can distract yourself until then and you'll soon have clarification. 😘

Unless you have pain or bleeding I'd say that the test was possibly faulty rather than a miscarriage. I had a missed miscarriage at almost 12 weeks recently and my tests were still blazing positive 3 weeks after my surgery for retained tissue (which by this point was 7 weeks after I'd passed the sac and the actual pregnancy).

Hope everything goes alright on Tuesday!

Dearest all

First of all I want to thank you all for your replies.

I am afraid yesterday we couldn't see anything at the pregnancy scan. Not even a sac. Which is quite bizzare as I had embryo transfer with donnor eggs (so there was no hCG in my system prior to that) and I got multiple positive pregnancy tests on Day 9. They took blood tests and confirmed that my hCG was very low so probably a chemical pregnancy but still, if it was a chemical pregnancy wouldn't we be seeing the sac?

Need to figure out what tests we could possibly do as I have two good embryos left and I don't want to jump straight into a new cycle if we can not figure out what might have gone wrong as it simply does not make sense that a sac was not even created.

I loved being pregnant and I hope I will get the opportunity to become a mother. I just sometimes feel bad for the child as I am already 45, and I am worried about the time difference.

xxx
