Single or multiple pregnancy??

Hello!

We’ve been TTC since December 21 and I’m pregnant with our second! ❤️ I have PCOS and my period was 3rd March and then another bleed for 7 days on 14th March. Due to the PCOS my cycles are inconsistent. This pregnancy feels completely different to my first, I had no symptoms with my little girl but this time I feel really nauseous, tender breasts, exhausted, food aversions and lack of appetite.

So in terms of tests, I tested negative every single day after a missed period, we went abroad on 30th April until 4th May so I tested on 30th April before going and BFN. On Thursday 5th May I took a digital test as that was the only test I had left and PREGNANT! I took a Clear blue dating test and it said 2-3 weeks! I took another one on 12th May and that said 3+! I also have a tiny bump! I’m 58KGs so I may show quicker with second pregnancy I don’t know!

I called the midwife and she estimated my due date to be 18th Dec. I feel confused as to how I had constant negative tests, to then be 9 weeks pregnant? When discussing dates and symptoms the midwife asked me if there was family history of twins, my father is a twin. I already had a hunch i May be pregnant with twins as I feel completely different and to go from negative to a BFP!

my question is has anyone else experienced this with tests and what was the outcome? Single pregnancy or multiples?

Was your father a fraternal twin op?. I took a clear blue neg test and then the next week a normal one and the line was so strong. It was twins 😊

Eh? All pregnancies would produce a BFN then one day, when the HCG levels are high enough, a BFP.

At this stage it's just a hunch with no evidence. You may well be right, but I'm not entirely sure why you think it might be twins.

I've had three twin pregnancies and suspected with the first two. The third was a bit of a shock - but I suspect I was in denial that it would be happening a third time. If you search my post history you'll find I started a thread before Christmas because I was beyond TERRIFIED of a third twin pregnancy.

How do you think you might feel if you're expecting twins? If you really are 9 weeks pregnant then you could have an early scam to find out how many are in there.

This^

I felt no different with my twin pregnancy to my others and it was therefore a complete shock at the scan.
I don't think you can tell.

I don’t think I’m 9 weeks pregnant as the tests have been negative, no faint line, no evap or anything! I tested first thing in the morning and the last thing at night and nothing. Until 6 days later I had a digital positive followed by 2 very strong red lines, the test line was stronger than the control line.
I honestly don’t think I’m 9 weeks, given that I ovulate during different times in a cycle, for example my cycles can be 41 days- 52 days.

My father is a fraternal twin, but his twin passed shortly after birth 😢 My scan is booked for 6th June as they don’t do early scans anymore.

Also, my father was an identical twin.

Your father being a twin doesn't make the chance that you carry twins higher. It's passed on from the female side.

But you could still be carrying twins, statistically you have the same chance as anyone else. Maybe you should find out first before you picture it too much and get dissapointed if it's an only. Can you do a private scan?

I hope that you get what you wish for, and congratulations on your pregnancy!

Thank you! the midwife is visiting next week so I’ll ask if I can have an earlier scan cause I’d like to know for sure how far gone I am and to put my mind at ease :)
thank you! I’m so excited! ❤️

Why don't you get a private scan? Most places do them from 8 weeks and some from 6 weeks.
I had an early scan as I had a bump from 6 weeks and everyone said it was twins - it's not.

AllyCatTown · 14/05/2022 22:01

Second bumps do show quicker but only way to know is with a scan.
Good luck and congratulations whatever the outcome

Is anyone expecting twins currently?
i am 16 weeks expecting twins and most likely to have gestational diabetes. Just hoping to be able to chat to others experiencing similar or what to expect from twin pregnancy
