Hey ladies, just wondering really, I've had some spotting since Tuesday so 4 days now, mainly brown and only when wipe, but the occasional time I've had a tiny bit of pink / red, I am 6 weeks and have an early scan tomorrow, just hoping for some reassurance really if anyone can offer any? Xxx

Same thing happened to me. I had an early scan at 6.5 weeks due to brown spotting. All was fine, I had some more spotting following the scan but it stopped by 8 weeks. It was only ever small spots though, not much. My son was born on time perfectly healthy, no more spotting during the pregnancy.

Congratulations and good luck xx

@Moosh18 The spotting wasn't all day, it was a few times a day when I wiped. I know what it's like, you think it's stopped then it appears again the next day. I know that once I'd had the viability early scan, I didn't worry about anymore spotting as I knew he had a heartbeat and all was well. I can't recall anymore spotting after 8 weeks but that's when my food aversion, tiredness and sore nipples started so I trusted that my pregnancy was progressing nicely.

Got my fingers crossed that it's the same for you xx

@Sausagerollfiend thanks so much, I'm trying to take comfort in the fact my tests have Continued to get a lot darker and my sickness has started since the spotting! Thank you for taking th time to reply xxx

I had light spotting like that on and off throughout the first trimester (so it lasted weeks). Barely showed up on a pad most of the time (although sometimes would), mostly just when I wiped. And I did have a heavier/bright red bleed the night before my 12 week scan. All was well and there was a little blood clot on the scan which apparently is harmless and just happens (they're not sure why).

Moosh18 · 14/05/2022 14:37

@SunshineAndFizz ah that's good to know! I was worried as it hadn't stopped in like a day it meant a MC may be imminent!!! I'm so glad I'm not the only one!

@Sausagerollfiend was your scan internal or external? As mines private I'm not sure they do internal and I'm worried they won't see a heartbeat xx

I called the hospital a couple of times for advice early on and they said if I was having any pain/cramping and/or really heavy bleeding (heavier than a period) to call the maternity assessment unit or if really worried just straight to A&E.

Fingers crossed all goes well for your scan x x

Same here, only lasted a few days. I've bought a heart monitor so I could listen to the heart beat at home if I got too worried. It helped to settle me down.

@Moosh18 As my son is now nearly 16 and doing his GCSEs, I've just checked back to the pregnancy diary I kept. I had brown bleeding at six weeks pregnant. Gp checked me over said nothing seemed untoward but this was just a tummy feel and lots of questions. Then at 8 weeks I had red bleeding/spotting. Phoned dr, they arranged an ultrasound scan at the early pregnancy unit at the hospital. I had a tummy ultrasound, not internal, and it showed baby measuring 8 weeks 6 days. I then note in my diary that I had a few more days of red/pink spotting then nothing for the rest of the pregnancy.

So, you may find that you're just more susceptible to spotting in the first trimester, like I was.

Best of luck with your scan xx

barneymcgroo · 14/05/2022 15:49

Had about two weeks worth - some of it reasonably heavy (as in thought it was a miscarriage...). Between 4 and 6 weeks. Currently 18w.

Sausagerollfiend · 14/05/2022 15:50

My original reply should have said scan at 8 weeks, not 6.5 weeks. Sorry for any confusion xx

salimali28 · 14/05/2022 16:02

I've had regular spotting throughout my second pregnancy, starting at 4 weeks all the way through to about 18 and a half weeks. I'm 22 weeks now and nothing since then so hoping it's finally stopped. I seemed to have it every week to two weeks and had everything from brown, pink and red. Multiple early scans and thankfully all okay, though I did lose one twin at about 5 weeks but apparently the bleeding wasn't related as it continued for so long after, had I not had the bleeding, I would never have known as second sac was completely gone by my 12 week scan.

CoalCraft · 14/05/2022 16:15

I had spotting throughout the first trimester in both my pregnancies up to 11 weeks.

Beachsidesunset · 14/05/2022 16:24

I had spotting/bleeding from 5-11 weeks last pregnancy. The stress! Multiple knicker checks day and night. It finally tailed off and a healthy baby born at term. Never a cause found. I'm now 25 weeks with my subsequent pregnancy and no bleeding at all! Every pregnancy is different. Keeping everything crossed for you, OP.

beansprout55 · 14/05/2022 16:33

I had it from 5 weeks on and off until 24 weeks (sometimes I'd go a week or two with nothing)
Ranged from brown, pink, purple and only once red. Only when wiping after the loo.

I'm now 34 weeks and it's just started again. It's really common - I was a nervous wreck throughout the first and second tri though!

Oh, they never found a cause with me! Which is also really common. When pregnant you're super vascular down there and blood vessels can pop in your uterus, cervix etc...

1/3 women will experience spotting during pregnancy too.

Isonthecase · 14/05/2022 16:37

I'm still getting it at nearly 26 weeks!

Moosh18 · 14/05/2022 17:58

Ladies, thank you all so so much for your replies! You've given me hope! I've got a DD and never had any spotting at all! Xxx
