Everyone in the class is getting it so I suppose it was only a matter of time.

I'm terrified though as had a mmc early this year and I had covid so always question if this caused it.

Can anyone offer any advice please?

I shouldn't have googled.

Have you ever had chickenpox yourself?

Beckyboo123 · 13/05/2022 21:10

Why are you concerned have you not had chickenpox? I was 36 weeks pregnant when my older DS got chicken pox. I was absolutely fine as my baby was safe inside me with my immunity keeping him from getting it. If you haven’t had chicken pox you really need to speak to your mid wife or gp urgently.

dreamyunicorn · 13/05/2022 21:53

I'm sure I had it as a child (DM can't remember) but I'm sure I remember white blobs all over me!

@Beckyboo123 that's more reassuring than you realise- I didn't think pregnant women could be near anyone with chickenpox? I remember my friend refusing to join a group of us as she was early pregnancy and another friends dc had chickenpox and she was saying how bad it could be if she caught it - even though she'd had it when a child.

So glad I posted if I've started stressing for no reason.

Thank you.

Another one to say that if you had it then you’re ok; chicken pox is everywhere at the moment and I know 2 pregnant mums whose children have it but they’re not worried as they had it already

Loki01 · 13/05/2022 21:59

You will be fine if you had it. I would go to the GP and ask for blood to be drawn to check your antibodies against chicken pox.

Pattygonia · 13/05/2022 22:04

If you had it as a child you will be fine. I was in contact with someone at work who had chickenpox when I was newly pregnant (15 years ago!!) My mum couldn't remember if I'd had it (and I had no memory either way) - and I started to come up in chicken pox like hives. My GP was great and I got a blood test which checked whether I'd had it as a child (can't remember what/how but I think it was checking for antibodies.) This showed that yes, I had had it as a child and was immune - the skin hives were just stress/psychological. So that was hugely reassuring as it can be really serious if you get chickenpox while in first trimester.

So if you'd like that extra reassurance it might be something to ask about - but if you remember having had it, that should be fine. (And I made sure I noted down when both my dc had chicken pox, so they wouldn't be in that position of not being sure! )

If you had it as a child then you're likely to be immune

Dontax · 13/05/2022 22:08

I think the guidance may have changed because pretty sure I had heard that no pregnant women should be around chicken pox either. It's at my son's nursery so I checked NHS website and it says to only be worried if pregnant and not had cpox.
Good suggestion to get blood test if you think you'll be stressed about it otherwise.

ShadowPuppets · 13/05/2022 22:11

If you’ve had it you should be ok. If it helps I’m 38 weeks and DD aged 2 had it when I was about 28 weeks and everything’s been fine (aside from dealing with pregnancy and a sick toddler but that’s life right 🙈) I spoke to my midwife at the time and she clarified that as I’d had it myself when younger I didn’t need to worry.

Thank you all so much honestly you've been SO helpful.

No one knows I'm pregnant irl and I'm so glad I posted.
