Disappointing scan

I just had a scan that measured me at 6 weeks. According to my app I should be 7 plus 3. The sonographer wasn't concerned but I'm sure that something is wrong my partner and I only had sex over the 3 nights of ovulation period (I got a uti later in the month) and didn't have sex for ages afterwards so I don't see how conception could have happened so much later.

I had a miscarriage in January that started in the same circumstances and I feel like it's happening again.

Hi, both my babies measured 'earlier' than my calculations like yours but it was fine. I couldn't figure it out either at the time. There was no way I'd conceived 10 days later. Then 2nd baby, same thing. The scan dates never matched my own. So take heart! Hope all goes well for you. Sorry about your earlier loss.

Anoushka1986 · 12/05/2022 06:49

@Felicity42 thanks for your kind words, they did give me a bit of hope although I'm still pretty upset. I'll just have to wait and see I guess.

I’m sorry to hear this. I know the NHS will want to see you in two weeks- but I would go for a private scan in 5-7 days time and see if a fetal pole and heartbeat has developed.

I’ve been where you are, and it’s shit. Sending love and hoping for a good outcome.

My friend went for her 12w scan only to be told she was only 10w. She knew this wasn’t correct but went with it and her DD measured small throughout the whole pregnancy. She was born a perfectly healthy 6lb.

🤞everything is absolutely fine.

Pregnantandvworried · 12/05/2022 07:04

I am in the same boat. I had a scan yesterday and should be 6 weeks but they only saw a gestational sac so I have to go back in 16 days.
I will book a private scan next few days as I can't wait that long.
@Anoushka1986 did they see a yolk sac on your scan ? Did they say how big it was ?

notagamer · 12/05/2022 07:05

Did you mention miscarriage in similar circumstances to sonographer?

Anoushka1986 · 12/05/2022 11:01

@Suprima I'm based in Australia so the scans were private anyway. Not sure why they didn't suggest coming in earlier. Would be nice to know sooner but it's quite costly anyway so would prefer to wait the extra time so I know for sure.

Thanks for your kind words, sorry to hear that you've been here too.

@BeingATwatItsABingThing how bizarre. I don't get it either. But hope it all works out.

@Pregnantandvworried sorry to hear that you are in a similar situation. It really sucks having to wait doesn't it.

There was a yolk sac and they said something like 6mm but don't know if that's the baby size or the sac size.

Hope it all goes okay for you x

I didn’t have sex anywhere near the date that I should have to have the dates they assigned at my first scan. I don’t believe things are as set in stone as we like to think and every woman’s body is different.
I know it’s hard, but try not to worry OP.

Anoushka1986 · 12/05/2022 11:05

@notagamer yes I did. She wasnt too worried but I guess she didn't have any specifics about the timeline of everything and I'm sure I can't be 6 weeks now.

@MintyMoocow thank you xx

At that gestational age a single mm will throw the dates off so I wouldn't worry about it! Big hugs and fingers crossed

Anoushka1986 · 13/05/2022 06:32

@Juno231 thankyou x

Just an update. I had my follow up scan this morning. Baby had not grown any bigger and heart beat had stopped. This is my second miscarriage in 5 months and feeling devastated.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I had multiple miscarriages but went on to have a healthy baby. It's very upsetting but don't lose hope. Take care.

Bellagio40 · 23/05/2022 03:06

I am so sorry OP

Assistanttotheregionalmanager · 23/05/2022 03:14

So sorry for your loss. I had 3 miscarriages before a successful pregnancy. I really hope that all works out for you too.

Fizzyfish · 23/05/2022 03:24

Sorry to hear this op

ladytessa · 23/05/2022 03:29

I'm so sorry :(
Big hugs!

I'm so sorry OP - miscarriage is horrific and two in a row truly sucks. I've been in the exact same position and I'm now writing this in the early hours as I sit here feeding my 13 week old DD

I lost the first pregnancy in 2020 through a missed miscarriage - we found out at ten and a half weeks that the baby's heartbeat had stopped around 8.5 weeks, despite having had two earlier scans which had showed a strong heartbeat. I then got pregnant again and that pregnancy just had problems from the start - lots of spotting, embryo not measuring correctly for my dates, lack of growth of the baby and a very slow heartbeat so we knew that the pregnancy didn't seek viable. I started bleeding properly around 8 weeks with that one and had to have a D&C.

After both of the losses, I decided to try and throw everything we could at getting a successful pregnancy. I saw a nutritionist and started having acupuncture. I read 'It Starts with the Egg' and bought and took all the recommended supplements for egg quality. I also had a private online consultation with a fertility doctor and was prescribed progesterone, Clexane, steroids, aspirin and high dose folic acid to take once I'd got pregnant again.

I got pregnant again last June and started on the medication from the day of the positive pregnancy test. Whether it was the medication or whether it was just luck that this pregnancy succeeded I'll never know. I was 39 so could have been that miscarriage was due to poor egg quality or genetics etc - but it was a case of third time lucky for me. Happy to give you more details if you'd like them in due course. Look after yourself Flowers
