I went for a scan at 28+5 as I was diagnosed with GDM. Baby is measuring in 98% percentile and her stomach, head and femurs are just over 2 weeks ahead??

They say that baby's height and weight go off their parents but me and my partner were both 6 pound at birth and we are both really short!!!! I'm freaking out that I'll have a massive/long baby lol. How accurate are these ultrasounds? My fundal height is measuring on track though! Do babies really go off their parents or is that a myth? Or is it my gestational diabetes causing her to be big. I have so much anxiety right now lol

Yes GD can cause big babies as there is more glucose around for them to utilise to grow. My babies were both over 90th centile and the scans predictions were accurate

I think it's a myth that babies go off parents. Me and my husband were both 6 pounds something. My babies were all between 8.5 and 10 pounds. I know some tiny women who have birthed big babies very well. I wouldn't give it too much worry. Someone has to be at the top end of the chart. :-)

@TheLovleyChebbyMcGee I'm hoping baby slows down a bit haha and she comes out nice and average!!

@WildCoasts You're right!!

I was the same, was told baby would be nearly 10 pounds.. he was 8. I was carrying so much water though. He was on 98th however and has stayed there and he’s now 2. Both me and partner are short/5-6 pound babies. GD can cause babies to be bigger, just ensure it is controlled as much as you can. Try not to worry too much OP.
