Hi all.

I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant. My three year old has an awful cough/cold at the moment so I've been using a Calpol Vapour Plug-In in her room to help clear her nose.

A friend just told me that apparently these aren't recommended to use if you're pregnant?? It doesn't actually say that anywhere on the box, but sure enough when I googled it it does say to not use when pregnant 😔

I don't share a room with DD so I'm not breathing it in all night, only for a couple of minutes if she wakes up in the night, but now I'm terrified!

You'll be fine, they always don't advise things when you're pregnant just to cover themselves.

dementedpixie · 09/05/2022 19:17

Wouldn't worry me tbh.

You arent applying it to your body or ingesting it and aren't having a lot of contact with the vapour either.

It’s the decongestant. It’s fine on the plug in, you’re just not allowed to eat it.

Regenbogen22 · 09/05/2022 19:17

Would never even cross my mind to worry about the short time you're in the room with the plug-in!

Relax, you're not snorting the oils directly out of it 😜

They say not to be used during pregnancy because it's a specific group that they can't test the product on during trials/testing so they are just covering themselves legally because they can't say either way - if you think about it what pregnant woman would agree to test whether a certain product was safe or not - so it's better for the drug company just to say not to use. Doesn't mean that's it's unsafe at all and if you aren't sniffing it at the bottle you'll barely be in contact with it anyway

They can't be tested so they can't say they are safe, I used them during pregnancy.

I've used these Ioads with DD when pregnant and sleeping in the same room. You're talking about the kids ones, yes? They are just lavender and chamomile and some other oils. I bloody love the smell of them!

Wouldn’t even cross my mind, sounds like you’ll be fine.
