Told girl but looks boy?

I’m so worried I’ve been told the wrong gender. I know it clearly shows 3 lines and no sign of a winkle, but then the other one really looks like one! She said she was 98% sure and her bits just looked a bit swollen. But after two boys I’ve dreamed of having a girl so I’m panicking! What does everyone think?

1st pic looks girl second looks boy!

How far are you?

GraceL365 · 08/05/2022 05:35

The second picture does look like a boy! How far along are you? Is it an option to pay for a private gender scan for another opinion?

runnerblade95 · 08/05/2022 05:42

Second picture definitely looks like a boy. Can’t tell on the first pic. Definitely would try and get a private scan if possible. Got everything crossed for you that you get your girl 🙂

Ellie1311 · 08/05/2022 06:12

It was a private 16 week scan. To be honest compared to my other boys it doesn’t look the same. But I asked her to check a few times and she insisted it was just swelling. She said you can clearly see the 3 lines which indicate the vagina forming.
Im just so confused. Obviously I’ll just have to wait til my 20 week nhs scan but I’m going to be so heartbroken if I’ve been told girl then boy !

I don't know this is a still from my sex scan at 16 weeks. Mines quite obviously a boy. (Confirmed at the 20 week scan). I would say coupled with the first picture you've got a girl:)

Clearly a girl, congratulations!

Regenbogen22 · 08/05/2022 06:48

Just wait until your 20 week scan for confirmation 😅
This is why I asked them not to tell me if they weren't certain, which at 21 weeks they were. Not that we're buying "boy or girl" colours anyway.....so didn't really matter!

Smileandtheworldsmileswithyou · 08/05/2022 06:44

Clearly a girl, congratulations!

Thank you - what do you think to the second picture? I don’t know if it’s just the angle but it looks like it’s really protruding!

MrsGHarrison87 · 08/05/2022 07:19

I think it's a girl. The girl parts can look swollen on a scan. With my last baby I had a private scan and his bits protruded a lot more.

Merryclaire · 08/05/2022 08:23

Perhaps have a gender blood test as it’s a lot more accurate than the scan?

ChloeHel · 08/05/2022 10:27

I have read a few times that boy scans can also have 3 lines if it is early on. That second one looks like a boy to me! You will just have to wait until the 20 week scan to be sure. I too had a 16 week scan and they said girl but I’m not 100% sold so I’m just waiting until next week for my 20 week scan before I tell people etc

This is my 16 week scan!

Can’t believe I’m reading this. You’re lucky to be having a baby and a third one at that.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 08/05/2022 10:38

In the nicest possible way you really need to appreciate the fact that you went for a scan to see a healthy baby.

You are very lucky and you should remember that rather than being "devastated" if it's another boy.

dreamyunicorn · 08/05/2022 11:03

@Ellie1311 I'm sure it's not meant in a harmful way but it will and does hurt others saying you're heartbroken over the gender.

I am back on here posting after finding out I'm pg after a heartbreaking loss.

You have a beautiful baby and regardless of gender it sounds like baby is healthy and doing well.

I'd be inclined to wait for the 20 week scan though before letting the gender sink in just in case!

dreamyunicorn · 08/05/2022 11:05

It's taken that long to write that I hadn't seen the above messages so don't want this to look like I'm jumping on the bandwagon!

Happy for this post to be removed as don't want to come across as bashing the op.

Ellie1311 · 08/05/2022 11:25

How did I know I’d get these types of posts replying. I said I’d be heartbroken if I’m told boy after being told girl. I’m allowed to feel disappointment after getting my hopes up? I also had 4 miscarriages last year and an ectopic a few years ago so I’ve also been through many other heartbreaking times. Just stay off posts like this if you don’t have any helpful advice - I asked what people thought about the scan, not for opinions on how you think I should feel.

There is absolutely nothing wrong if you were to feel slight disappointment at later finding out you’re having a different gender to what you were initially told.

I do understand why disappointment over gender upsets people but I’m sure it’s not like you’re not grateful to be having a beautiful healthy baby regardless of gender, but you should be allowed to feel how you feel without being judged.

ArcheryAnnie · 08/05/2022 11:47

Realistically, what difference does it make at this stage? You can't change anything, so honestly I think you just need to relax about it. Working yourself up into joy or disappointment over something you cannot change (and which - gently - does not matter) is a waste of emotional energy.

Snowflakes1122 · 08/05/2022 12:01

Definitely looks like a girl to me.

You are entitled to feel what you like, and to come onto a pregnancy forum without being judged for it by others taking out their issues on you.

highhoo · 08/05/2022 12:28

I'm no expert but that does look like a swollen girl to me!

You could try posting on the nub theory queens Facebook group the admins on their are very knowledgeable.

AG96 · 08/05/2022 12:33

Just curious, what would cause the swelling? Is this a common thing? First pregnancy and learning! Thanks

MojoJojo71 · 08/05/2022 12:36

Midwife sonographer here. Both of those photos look like female genitals to me.

I hope all goes well at your 20 week scan OP

I agree!

rocketfromthecrypt · 08/05/2022 13:40

Can't you just wait until the 20 week scan?

BundtCake · 08/05/2022 13:47

Why are you working yourself into such a state? There’s nothing you can do. You’ll find out again at your 20 week scan.
