Unpasteurised apple cider vinegar panic

Hi all,

I'm 5+3 and have had a complete panic this morning about the apple cider vinegar I've been drinking every morning for a few months. Suddenly saw it was unpasteurised (checked because it tasted a bit funny today) and now I'm panicking reading about potential risks of listeria and salmonella and toxoplasmosis from unpasteurised ACV.

I had an MMC at 11 weeks back in October so am already anxious enough as it is.

Obviously I'm going to stop drinking it now but should I speak to a doctor?

This early on the embryo is still small and kind of self contained - no sharing through the placenta since that doesn't exist yet.

So I wouldn't worry too much! Like you've said, you've stopped drinking it. You could still carry on with a pasteurised version though.

@Regenbogen22 thanks so much, really reassuring x

All pasteurisation does is kill germs. The only reason they advise to avoid unpasteurised food in pregnancy is because IF you were to get ill, it would be more serious than if you weren't pregnant.

You say you've been drinking it for months - has it made you I'll yet? If not, what are the chances that you'd have caught something from it in the last couple of weeks? Slim! So try not to worry xx

By the way, it isn't completely true that there's no sharing in early pregnancy - yes it's a lot slower and sort of direct but things can get from the maternal bloodstream and into the baby from very early on. This is only really relevant to things like drugs though (think thalidomide), not germs so much

Thank you @CoalCraft! I have a fairly strong stomach so hopefully it's all fine!
