Spaghetti Hoops

Ilikecake05 · 03/05/2022 11:33

Having the mother of all cravings for spaghetti hoops. So I went and got myself a tin (I actually got 6 tins coz special offer). Excitedly heated them… and they are so bland it’s unreal. Checked another tin and it’s the same. They’re Heinz!! What in the world of first world problems has happened to spaghetti hoops? Are they all like this now? I remember them being tomato-ey and delicious. They taste of nothing 😭

Please recommend some tangy, flavoursome spaghetti hoops to me please? I beg of you.

Also, this might be a repeat post because I was in the middle of typing 5 mins ago and the page refreshed and it vanished.

Oh lord I saw the title and thought it was going to be a "is it safe to eat spaghetti hoops when I'm pregnant" thread 😂
Haven't had them in a while, maybe your tastes have changed a bit in pregnancy? I still like my Heinz beans the best.

Now I want spaghetti hoops. Cheers OP 😂😜

@Ilikecake05 During early pregnancy when I was really sick I was obsessed with the children's heinz spaghetti! In the tiny tins, thinn I used to get the peppa pig ones 😅 they were so good on toast !!

I know they're not the hoops! But I personally preferred these over the hoops! And now

I'm thinking about it I actually might have to go and buy some!

Hugasauras · 03/05/2022 11:45

Yes, before I opened I was trying to work out what possibly could be dangerous about spaghetti hoops. The tin? The hoop shape?!

Grin

V disappointing though, OP! DD loves the Peppa Pasta variety of tinned pasta in tomato sauce but she doesn't have the most discerning of palates.

Ahhh haha! 4th pregnancy, no such worries with what it’s safe to eat here :) sorry to disappoint 😂

My tastes have changed a bit but I forced DH and a member of my staff to try them and both said they’re not the same and very bland.

I’ve been eating a lot of beans… on baked potato with cheese but it’s not doing me a lot of favours in the trapped wind department 🙄

I’ve got 4 tins going spare if you want ‘em?

Ahhh yes… I’ll grab some paw patrol or peppa pig spaghetti and see if that’s any better!!

Tesco spaghetti hoops are more tomato-y. I've been testing out different brands as some days I can't manage more than hoops and toast 🥴

Coco9910 · 03/05/2022 11:54

This is making me debate changing my salad for lunch to a tin of spaghetti hoops that I know I have in my cupboard 😅

Bumble1993 · 03/05/2022 11:55

I think like most things the sugar and salt content have been reduced….

Orcarain · 03/05/2022 11:57

Not a recommendation but a solidarity.

We went out on Sunday and got a full English and I was SO EXCITED for the baked beans! I wolfed them down in no time. I wonder if there's something in the tomato sauce that baby needs.

Cakecakecheese · 03/05/2022 12:02

I had a spaghetti hoops phase earlier on in my pregnancy. I think they were Aldi ones.

First pregnancy where I haven’t had massive food aversions and I am craving tomato stuff and a particular salad dressing that can only be bought from my local soft play. I’ve been bribing my much-too-large-for-this-soft-play 7 year old with actual money so I can go and enjoy the salad dressing. Bad news is I have extreme reflux this pregnancy too and neither the tomato stuff nor the salad dressing at all help 😂😂😂

Eat on toast with melted cheese on top, smothered in Worcestershire sauce. Yummy I promise...

It’s just so disappointing because they sell separate reduced sugar and salt ones.

prepares myself for total judgement

my actual plan was to dip toast and Philadelphia into them 🤤🤤🤤

but toast with beans and cheese melted on top with Worcestershire sauce is like one of my fave things so I’ll def try that with the leftover cans of hoops!!

Do it. Or have both.

Simply add salt and sugar and bingo! They'll taste like they always did! A squirt of ketchup and sprinkling of salt should do it.

cdba88 · 03/05/2022 12:09

Tescos own brand ones are much better. More tomatoey and better flavour. And cheaper.

Shannith · 03/05/2022 12:11

Stir in in a bit of sugar and salt (that they've leeched out, the bastards) and get them back to tasting of something.

I had a similar disappointment, though not pregnant, just wanted them - and this perked them right back up.

Shame to waste the 4 tins! Also black pepper.

Ilikecake05 · 03/05/2022 12:20

Some great suggestions. Will try Aldi and Tesco ones and will try adding some salt and sugar.

The only thing I can’t do, sadly, is add ketchup. I have really bad reflux and can manage most foods with a heavy dose of gaviscon but one thing I don’t seem to be able to tolerate at all is ketchup. Every time I’ve had it I’ve ended up really unwell and it took me months to work out it was ketchup doing it (and lots of
cheesy pasta with ketchup mixed through snacks were had in that time!).

Yep, absolutely this - pinch of salt and a squirt of Tommy K stirred in will sort them out.

Cruz86 · 03/05/2022 12:40

This is literally fuelling my need for hoops/beans at the moment! Last night at about 9.30 I had a bowl of beans and dipped nuggets in them 😬😆

wateraddict · 03/05/2022 13:27

@Ilikecake05 I hope you enjoy the cheesy saucy option! You have got me thinking about philly now... nice trade! Smile

Spottybutterfly · 03/05/2022 16:26

I had spaghetti hoop cravings earlier in the pregnancy. With the bad all-day sickness they were something manageable.

I remember eating a tin my husband heated up for me and the praise he got was like it was a 3 course meal. I did have to add salt.

I've just been eating whatever the cheapest spaghetti in tomato sauce is.

However I saw Heinz ravioli in Tesco's and really enjoyed it. Next shopping day my husband goes on his own to Asda. They only had their own brand ravioli. I feel a bit apprehensive to try it. Not that the Heinz meat is top quality bit I feel like the Asda on at half the price might be terrible.

CoalCraft · 03/05/2022 18:01

I find the Heinz one's really sweet. Tesco own brand ones are yummy. I usually mix in some grated cheese...

Belle2210 · 03/05/2022 23:07

11:05pm and all I want now is spaghetti hoops and toast 🤣. I live in the country so don't even have anywhere nearby I could get them.... On the list for tomorrow.
